As the thread name implies, I want to see if I'm on the right track here. I'm at about the one month mark for playing the game and I want to work towards something.

My original plan was to pilot a Hulk to help a small corporation financially. As such, all of my skills have been devoted to mining to the exclusion of all else. I'm now sitting in a Retriever. About the time I got it, I found the Orca and decided I wanted to switch to the role of Mining Director and started on Leadership training.

To complicate matters, I really don't want to completely forego PvP and figured the skills for Fleet Command Ships would have a fair amount of overlap with the Orca skills. Then, I can use mining to supply whatever I lose in PvP. I know looking at Command Ships this early is a bit ridiculous, but I like to pre-plan and they seem to suit me best.

Current Skills:
Core Competency (basic)
Base skills for a Covetor (within a week)

Plan
Orca Base
Max gang boosts and leadership
Start towards Fleet Command Ships.

Until I can get a better idea of how well this will work out, I've stopped specialized training in favor of more generic skills. Cap, shields, electronics, targetting, etc.

I would balance support, weapon, and mining skills for now. Once you have cash flow, experience, and better understanding, then branch out into leadership to finish up Orca and Command ship. The Leadership skills are slow, and sp sucking that don't have alot of benefit early on

It looks like I may spend a while in my Covetor working toward the skills for a Myrmidon. The base skills don't take long at all, but I'll still need the drone, fitting, and basic survivability skills. Then I think I'll stick to flying that until I get enough experience in PvP and battles in general to handle something more expensive like an Eos. I don't want to get in one then have no clue how to use it/fit it or just not have the warfare link skills ready.
