First of all I know that Amarr mostly uses lasers ofcourse and that you're always well off to have them all up at least to some extend.

But here's the thing, I'm primarily interested in frigate and cruiser ships, my immediate goal is getting into to a Guardian for Incursions (and once used to those, PVP). Unless there's a practical reason or necessity I feel no need to fly big, slow ships so if I could specialise into combat capable (PVE, PVP and support) frigate and cruiser hulls I'd be quite happy.

As Amarr there seem to be several options, Heavy Assault cruisers, Recons and perhaps even a Legion. For frigates there's the stealth bomber, Interceptor and Assault frigate. Funnily enough (or rather, annoyingly) some are laser based, some use missiles and again others use mostly drones.

I know these are long term targets for me but I could focus my training just a little bit more if I could come up with a well reasoned decision on what to specialise into first: the missile ships, perhaps the drone versions or keep to lasers? So what I'm kinda looking for is someone stating "X ship works well/crap in PVE/PVP, this is why. Said X ship uses X weapon type mostly". Then combine all that into a "overall, if you look for suchandsuch game play, X weapon type seems the best one to start off with".

I realise it's a bit far fetched to get a consensus on that but any direction is better than me just guessing backed by no knowledge whatsoever. Any help is very much appreciated :)

Amarr only has 1 drone boat, and it's tech 1. But always good to have at least decent drone skills, no matter what you fly.

Amarr missile boats are good ships, but the bonuses are all (i think) for HAMs, which means short range. Keep that in mind.

I'm not going to get into all of that as I'm on my phone, but from personal experience. you'll eventually want to branch out to other ships in other races. training the support skills for gunnery gives you alot more options for ship type than missiles. lasers are powerful, great for ratting and an overall good choice. Drones should be worked no matter what as you're going to use them in almost any ship and drone interfacing and tech 2 drones are no joke. My suggestion would be to focus gunnery and drones and don't worry about missiles. If you look at my eveboard, i started focusing missiles and learned the error of my ways.

Just my 2 isk.

Amarr have a good selection of ships. They are only slow because people plate them for defense( i mainly resist buff mine and try not to use plates much). Otherwise they have alright speed.

To be effective you really need good support( like all your cap skills) AND good gunnery AND good good ship skills to fly laser based Amarr. Not to say you cant do it with lesser skills. But it makes a very noticable difference.

If you dont really want to get into all that right now, i would look at the recons. Both are excellent ships and rely mostly or fully on drones for damage. Both work well in pvp, though pve use would be more limiting. The missile boats are decent if you have the skills for them. But i wouldnt say they are spectacular though. Really the gun ships is where Amarr shines especially in their battleships.

And of course their is the guardian which most would say is the best logi in the game.

Recon ships, focused on neuts or e-war. Hardly relavent to the discussion, and I did say having decent drone skills in general is a good idea.

Why isn't it relevant? The OP specifically calls out recons as a class of interest. In fact, the Amarr recons are more capable of soloing than the other races' due to their drone bonuses.

It's OK to be wrong, we all are at times. It's the Internet.

Yep the op stated PVE, PVP and support. I can do all 3 in Amarr recons.

For PVE the pilgrim can push over 400 dps. A drake with HMLs will push 400-550 DPS granted with a better tank.
A pilgrim also makes a good tackle for small gang pvp. The curse is a great support ship and isnt bad at solo pvp either. I havent tried a curse as a dps platform though.

If you are interested in a Support role, then the Abritrator, Pilgrim, and Curse can be excellent. The TD (and Neut bonuses for the Recons) are excellent in PvP, and the drones give you some flexibility. Damage, armor/shield rep, ECM. As an added bonus, the Pilgrim is a passable ship for PvE if you're interested in Exploration in high and low sec. Being able to warp cloaked in low sec is a super nice benefit.

Thing is - every pilot needs drone skills, so you kind of train for these by default in a way. Another nice thing is, with good armor and drone skills, you're a shoe-in for Gallente later. Just train up Blasters and you're ready to go.

If you are intersted in doing a LOT of damage, go the laser route. Amarr ships can deal a great amount of damage at short and medium range with T2 pulses. The Harbinger, for example, can lay out a lot of hurt for the price of the hull.

I do not recommend training missiles. The Amarr missile boats are good, but there are so very few of them that unless you plan on cross training to Caldari you're better off with lasers.

While all replies are useful this is the sort of info I was angling for, many thanks.

At first I thought you were stupid but then I looked at it in EFT and it wasn't half bad.
Curse is still probably better though, else I'd have heard about this.

Train whatever you want. You never know when you're going to want to try something different down the road and suddenly those 'useless' skills are usefull.
