Hello everyone Very Happy, is anybody think it would be fun if we have more controls on the flight of our ship? I think it would be fun to add a "Manual Drive" function.

Let's me explain more specifically.

I see the actual flight system as a auto-pilot system or a captain who give is orders to the pilot. You double-click in empty space to go in this direction, you right-clicking on a ship to orbit at 5km, right-click to approach, etc...

I think this functions should stay. But my idea is adding a "Manual Flight" system. Like taking the place of the pilot.

A little list of feature in Manual Flight mode :
- Accelerate and decelerate with the mouse wheel.
- W,A,S,D for turning the ship. Like a joystick.
- Targeting, firing and warp drive should stay like it is right now.
- Locking camera on target. (not sure about this)
(open to any others ideas from everyone.)

That should add more "actions" in the game, help on some issue, help navigate in a belt, for example, and add another way to fight.

And one other thing, With this system, is it possible to change the "anti-collision" system? When I go strait to an asteroid, for example, and when I'm too close of it, even if it's not really close to it, my ship is pushed back like a positive magnet face a another positive magnet. With a manual flight system, it would be fun to add more reality to this. A possibility to navigate easily throw a full asteroids belt.

Alright... I hope I've been enough clear to be understood Razz
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Many Thanks to read me ^^ Good bye everyone Wink

LoL... I just wanted to post this idea. Yeah, I agree. Many people who quitted EVE got bored because of the "auto" control flight system. I'm also suggesting this idea to be made as an option. So people can fly the ship manually, with more action-based space flight simulation like the Freespace 2 game, or automatically, which is the current EVE space flight simulation. This feature will also increase the interest of people who want action-based space flight game.

EVE Online is already a great and excellent space game with player-based economy rates, so many deep and interesting politics, awesome graphics, cool PvP, CvC, and AvA fighting strategies, great amount of spaceships' types and models, Incarna features, etc. What it lacks from the very first time I knew EVE is... the manual flight control system and manual firing control system. Many of the spaceships fans out there want actions with their own hands, not controlled automatically. They feel more "alive" in the game with manual flight control and manual firing control. Well, I hope CCP can make this happen someday so we can really have a "live" spacewar and get more interested to continue the life in New Eden.

It's just a word of suggestion from EVE lovers and spacewar fans.

For the sake of something holy, don`t try to turn EVE into MMO Freelancer or X.

I think the first step to give eve a more action feel, is to actually see the enemy you shoot. Sure you can move the camera, but then you can't see your own ship (thinking here of mainly BS's). Smile

But just adding scourch marks on the hull when hit, would add some feel. Or a distinction of a shield or armor hit would be cool to...

But it's all fluff and not essential to the eve game, which is all about the bigger picture, in my opinion anyways.

The server hamsters didn't like this idea at all. Currently the server gets the commands we issue every second or so. Joystick or wasd would require constant communication. The fleet (and Jita) sizes would drop massively with this. This would also mean that with lag the impact is much larger on those who use manual flight.

What function would this serve? You can't ram and if the targeting etc stays the same what's the point of maneuvering to a different position. It doesn't really improve the chances of keeping in the optimal, there's no cover from structures nor does it add anything that a double-click couldn't do before.

Finally even the smallest ships are the size of a 747. Hardly something you'd fly with twitch controls. Bridge commands seem appropriate for these sizes.

While we can argue about the suitability of the controls for large ships and their effectiveness, the technical problems we cannot. Adding code that becomes unsuitable in player-favoured blobfights seems like a bad idea, at least to me.

I totally agree on all but i think that the current automatic firing controls are fine. Just add an option to manual flight control, my opinion is to add it no matter what the cost is (more lag smaller fleet fights smaller concetration of players in one system)

After all eve got a huge universe i guess its ok to spread out the players a bit somehow so we add manual flight and keep lag in playable amounts.
Maybe split the world into realms or something idc how it will be done as long as its done cause its the key of success that is missing from eve.

Also instead of wasting dev time on ''captains quarters'' you can waste time to do the above and below plz

Also do something to drop or stable plex prices cause it always getting higher
Also add new npc types more interesting than the current factions something like alien npc with brand new alien ship models and mixed dmg types dealt and dealing.....(along with new skills to be able to fly the alien ships or make then not usable by players idc i just wanna blow alien ships instead of poor angels etc etc)
Also add some new ship models cheap t1 and maybe t2 or t3 but not extremely expensive
ok its ok to add an very expensive t3 BS but add some cheap t1 also
Also you could add some new non capital ship weapon types something like a beam that hits up to 3 targets at the same time without cycle time just activate once and constant nuke till ur out of ammo or cap dunno how it will be balanced i just propose an idea devs must make it balanced.
Something that all ships will have along with their primary guns, a small support weapon that is more of a visual fx addition than a dps reliant weapon
Since now same weapons are all grouped just 1 more button to press and few more graphics to shoot could be a nice addition.

AND THE MOST IMPORTANT AND SIMPLE THING TO DO: give us the option to choose between the old station and the new captain quarters i miss my ship spining around and the ship scale in captain quarters doesnt seem right to me also captain quarters is more harder to use station and fit ur ship than the old station. Old station was more simple to use and better looking and easier GUI without walking around to click on buttons! give us the option to choose whatever we like???

if u wanna make profit make a better game my suggestions will make eve a better game i believe and a better game will lure more ppl the more ppl that play the game will help on keeping the game alive and growing and if the game is growing the profit will raise for sure.

it's possible to have manual control, although not on level of fighter sim. WASD could locally control direction that is sent to server which then changes ship course. basically, what mouse click does, only through keyboard. and it wouldn't significantly increase lag, as direction change request would be limited.

as for anti-collision system, i doubt tech capabilities are there yet. sure, it might work for two objects (of which one is static), but once situation gets to hundreds of moving objects, it's a whole new ball game(!).
