I would like to propose thermal+ aoe damage taken from stars the closer you get to the centre of the star. Exponential perhaps.

You take more damage the closer you get to the middle of the star.

Warp in points unchanged.

-Players will be able to escape into stars.
-Competitions will spawn if there is enough variety of star parameters.
-Can create thermal damage traps
-Hide things, cargo containers do not take ANY damage. Hide treasures for some kind of game mechanical reward.
-Please allow POSes around stars! (Had to sneak that one in)

Hmmm... Sounds quite interesting.

Maybe the concept could be extended, like...

- It gets more difficult to scan for a ship if the intended target gets closer to a star (the radiation from the star masks the ship's signature)

- With cloakers it's the other way round: The 'shadow' in the star's corona give their presence away to highly-trained scanners with decent equipment.

... but, as with every 'nice to have' idea, it may be, say, 2015 before it's even considered for implementation.

Entered thread hoping to see a post about star mining. Left a bit dissapointed.

Although proximity to stars should be able to do what you said it would also be a nice extra element in PVP.
