I've got a location for my empire tower scouted. There is a small pos anchored, completely offline, its a 1-man corp, so my corp is going to claim it. Trouble is, I don't know what gun type to use. I recently invested 2 mil SP into projectile weapons, so it will be my first time using them.

Since its an offline tower, I am GUESSING that I can get away with arty use, but would AC be better?

Ship type is a Tempest, No need for any tank at all. I want pure damage.

Well.. generally speaking, AC will give you slightly more DPS, at the expense of MUCH more ammo expended. Arty gives much higher alpha, and uses less ammo. Arty is generally used against posses for range, but with it being offline, you can choose either. Just be aware that running back and forth for ammo will easily negate your gain in DPS.

I would recommend arty if you're doing it with 10 or less, AC with 10 or more friends.

There's going to be 5 of us. We're simply going in before DT with haulers and anchoring GSCs for ammo, and setup our shooting positions and hunkering down for a few hours of bashing.

I was thinking along the lines that you said; ACs burning lots of ammo for a small DPS gain, so I guess it's ARTY for the win.

Oh, here's another question - Due to a lack of 2 skills, I can only fit 4 1400mm Arty on my 'Pest, but I can fit all 6 1200mm. Should I stick with the 14s, or down to the 12s?

Whichever does the most DPS, have a hauler alt bring ammo if you need to.

Edit:
I was typing this reply as you posted the above. You already have the ammo thing situated so just bring the most dps you can.

Two your other question, whichever does the most dps again. I would guess the 6 smaller guns but check in EFT or whatever.

That is why I am asking in this thread. For this particular situation, I was unsure which was the best bet for DPS. I assume most people who use guns use AC when in PVP because they can hit fast and close, but for me, its just a tower hit, and there is zero chance of resistance from this 1-man corp. :)

Agreed, if you have the ammo sorted out, take ACs. That was just the concern for a smaller amount of players, you having to run back and forth with your combat ship. If you can bring ammo in and out and not worry about losing DPS, go for autocannons!

Second question: More guns is always better. Even if smaller. And (guessing) Weapon Upgrades is a wonderful skill. Fit gyrostabilizers, too!

EFT is your friend. Set up a defense profile with the POS's resists (do a show info to find out), and see which loadout gives you most DPS. Keep in mind that even offline POSes have 50% resists to one damage type and 25% to another, so shooting in the resist hole can save you a lot of time.

Well, you'll get more DPS out of autocannon's.

Do you have EFT or eveHQ? If not, google them, download one or both. They're both very good.

Yep, going with all gyro II in the lows, minimal tank JUST incase 1 dude logs on and decides to take on a pest, 2 snakes, and a nightmare wailing on his pos.

OK well if AMMO was the only consideration for the option, which rigs would be best for an AC fit? Collision Accelerator I, or Burst Aerator I? I am leaning toward 2 Accels and 1 Aerator..? Yay, nay?

EDIT: I have used EFT and HQ in the past, just dont have them installed atm, and its been forever since Ive used em, so I didnt want to have to relearn it right now. I may have to suck it up and do it, if not for this tower, than for next time.

Beware of stacking penalties going ALL gyro IIs. You might throw a tracking enhancer or two in there, as after about 3 of the same mod the additional ones become useless.

Personally, since you're going with ACs, I would go 2 damage one rate of fire (whichever those are, I always forget)

I have the penalty chart somewhere, I will consult that. Thanks for the reminder! And yah, 2 damage and 1 ROF rig is what I was looking at. AC already burns ammo fast enough. :)

Thanks for all your help guys! 07

I would suggest not investing in dps rigs as the yalso stack out with dps mods, so after the 4th or so they are kinda useless.

You say you are using a Tempest, well we took down a POS shields earlier this month and put it onto reinforced, using a Fleet Tempest, my fit was 6 X 1400mm and 2X Cruise Launchers (for added lol dp, along with 3 Sentry drones) and low slots were filled with 4 Gyros and 3 Tracking Enhancers.

Basically, just use your regular Pest, remove tank to save CPU/grid, fill Lows with dps mods and you got yourself a POS bashing BS., don't spend ISK on rigs you wouldn't use otherwise.

Just saying, hope it helps. ;)

Did you consider the Maelstrom? Same damage as Tempest, with easier fittings. Or this, kind of terrible I know. Reactor controls do add +15% PG and if you need a bit more, a diagnostic unit bumps it up to 20. More then enough to fit 6 1400mm, use some faction ammo to boost the damage a bit because the cycle time is really slow and it can actually end up saving you money in the long run. TP are just there to boost the signature, but hell if I know that they will improve on a POS structure. And don't forget drones as well.

Seriously...

Target Painter doesn't work on Control Towers...!!!!!!

Why people that have never done some POS Bash gives advices...?

Fit with weapons you like...

* 2 other good options are capstable Geddon for afk pos bashing,
Blasters at close range for faster Pos bashing (as the tower is offline and you can get close to it, and they deliver good DPS...)

And yes, don't forget to bring Drones...

Edit: typing from iPhone is crap ;)

As everyone else has said go with ACs, Full Gank.

I've never done it myself and it should NOT work...but several people insist that while Target Painting etc., doesn't work on Towers...apparently webbing them does...I.E. you do more damage to a webbed tower than a non webbed tower...even though it doesn't "move"...they claim it's field tested...it makes no damn sense, but worth a try, I've seen other strange glitches (T2 Scan Rez Rig having no stacking penalty with T1 rigs or Mods is one recent example <.<) What else are you doing with those mid slots anyway?

Torpedo raven is good for bashing offline towers, you can choose best damage type for certain tower and you do always same damage so it is easy to calculate time to be needed to bash tower and approx amount of ammunition. Probably best dps from t1 ships against offline towers.

Amarr laser ships are easiest choice because you can put lasers on and go afk.

Minmatar would be my 3th choice to bash offline tower.

Gallente has dominix which is better against online ECM fitted towers, just put sentry drones out and try to shoot something.

"Doesn't work" as in you can't even use the mod on a tower...and back when it did, you couldn't properly field test gun damage anyway due to the randomness in hit quality.

Definetly go with ACs though, 6x 800mm ACs VS 6x 1400's might have been worth considering if you were REALLY that worried about ammo, but when you'd be forced to further reduce DPS with by using only 4 1400's or 6 1200's, it's no contest anymore at all.

Also remember that if you have PG issues, the damage rigs will make that worse, they increase powergrid use for the guns.

Just a precision :
Geddon is nice for AFK POS Bash, if it is capstable, as it doesn't use ammo, if not : You will need supply of CapBooster Charges 800...

Torp raven with 3 damage mods in low works nice too, true.

For drones, sentry ones are nice and Big Amarr ones too as they deal EM Damage to kill POS Shield faster (which is in general the longer HP BAR to put in Red, armor goes fast and hull too even with ****ing 99% resists).

Hope it will help you

And, YES, mods like : TP, Web, etc... Doesn't work on Control Towers...

Have Fun

As another note, why on earth (or space?) would you want tracking enhancers?
The tower isn't going anywhere, so just sit still.

The easiest PoS "bash" on an offline tower it to make your ship cap stable and stick lasers on it. Then you target, then shoot and then go read a book.
You have no ammo issues and you never have to tell the guns to fire after a reload, unless you change ammo type.
It's not very interesting or as fast as doing uber zomg dps, but it is easy.

Normal drones will work on an offline tower. You need sentries to hit one that has a shield up.
If a tower has it's shield up then you can't use short range guns - you have to be able to hit the tower itself from the outside of the bubble. If they have guns up and online then you'll need to tank them, or/and take them into hull.

If there is only 1 person in the corp - stick them into your contacts and watch to see if they logon. If they do, then watch local and if they appear then expect either a fight or try to kill them as they attempt to online the tower :)

If there are any anchored arrays then be ready to scoop them up in a handy hauler. Make sure said hauler has enough space.

Yea, interestingly enough, I am destroying some mods in space, reading the forums.

A small offline pos is not all that hard to blow up.

Most likely it will have no stront either.

I don't think there is need for a TP given that towers have a 2/4/6 km signature. Rolling Eyes
