So i understand that the level of materials on the planets differs as Highsec > Lowsec > Nul/WH from worst to best.

But my question is:

Does the difference is security within the bandings make a difference too?
ie, does a barren planet in 1.0 have less than a barren planet in 0.5?

Generally speaking, the lower a planet's sec status the higher the resource percentage on that planet; there is a correlation over a large enough sample size. I cannot say for certain whether there is marked change at the 0.5 and 0.0 sec levels, but I doubt it.

There is a small difference in sec status.

Example: A 0.9 planet will get you say 600 P0/cycle, whereas a 0.5 planet will get you closer to 800 P0/cycle.

I don't know the exact numbers, but it each level you go down seems to improve the extraction rate by about 5-10% until you hit 0.1.

From my rough observations difference between 0.1 and 0.2 is near 20%

Between 0.5 and 0. it's MUCH more. Extractor is nice if it gives 2k per head in 0.5, in 0.1 it's more like 5k per head. On top of that there are so many players in hisec that resources get depleted (try getting electrolytes in hisec - you'll see yourself).
Processing those materials becomes a problem though, as you need 8 basic processors to service extractor, for the total of some 13k PG needed just to get p1 - excluding links.
Builds tend to be very tight on pg.

while the big jumps are between hi/low low/null, the lower the security rating the better.
So yes, an 1.0 planet will generally yield less than a 0.5 planet( there are exceptions ofcourse ).
a 0.4 planet will yield MUCH more than a 0.5 planet, and a 0.1 planet will yield a bit more than a 0.4 planet.
0.1/0.0 is again a big jump, and the lower the security rating gets, the better.
-0.5 will yield more than -0.1. that is why wormholes generally have the best yields, as they are -1.0 security.
