I think a lot of the above sticky board proposals could be answered by one new class of ship--the "light carrier"...

This would be a multipurpose jump ship that could travel gate to gate just like a orca.

It would have several unique characteristics that would make it fit for the ideas of
*home
*small holdings
*small gang pvp
*sov
*0.0 industry

Here are some of the features--each of the 4 races could have one-two of the features or have a buff to some of the features...

1) you can anchor it like a pos, and it will deploy a forcefield... This will let a solo player anchor their light carrier, then eject a ship from the hanger to start exploring the null sec system

2) it can be configured with factory slots, ore reprocessing slots, or research slots

3) it can cloak, but cloaking uses fuel--this stops it from getting probed out

4) it can have a limited (2 slot) clone vat array for small gangs

5) it has its own cloning facility so if the original pilot gets podded, the pilot will show up back at the light carrier

6) it can't field much in the way of fighters since it isnt supposed to be a ratter ship, but can deploy and then eject a tengu or battleship

7) it has a carrier jump range but 1/2 the mass so it can use wormholes better

mh as soon as it spotted by enemies, you should assume its toast if you dont GTFO fast enough.

Yes. "Strike carrier" is a good idea. As long as it is affordable.

Only if it can be found and stolen under the right circumstances.

If you mean it can cloak while unanchored but uses fuel, that's a bad idea. If you mean it can cloak while anchored, that's a bad idea.

I'd prefer to see some kind of "grab bridge". Where you lock it on to a cyno and it pulls everything within 2.5km of the cyno except the cyno ship to it.

No. If you get killed, you either have to leg it back to your carrier or leave it for dead. This is why a grab bridge would be better then a clone bay, too.

I'd rather see it have large guns, POS style, that can also be used if it is deployed.

That I like. Encouraging nomadic wormhole running would be awesome.

I think ure idea is great Delianora, Think of nomads of these ships roaming arround to earn isk and explore eve in the same time. The cloaky ting is kinda stupid, but I think you should have high slots so you could be able to cloak it unanchored, but you have to defend it if you anchor it as well. The clone vats are not a good idea either, to the extent that you could have more peeps with a single light carrier. Its better to have a personal cloning facility so if you die outside of it, you can get back to it.

It would also be a good idea for people that roam 0.0 alone to use the Stealth bomber tactics to kill null sec ratters. Then they get a temporary base of operation they can set up. But you will always have the risk of losing it if you arent careful.

Make it a modular but on a scale like a T3 Orca. Could be configured for cargo space for a hauling, say between a Orca and Jump Freighter?

Won't pass unless it can be probed out. Griefers love to probe things.

How about faction Sentry guns? or sentry drones with damage bonus.

Instead of making a new ship, CCP would make a lot more people happy if they would just fix POSes.

That's what they were designed for. You already can have factory and research slots on a pos, you can get a cyno gen, the only thing missing would be a med bay.

Then you could just jump in a carrier or rorqual or a JF, drop a pos, setup the structures you need, get a ship from the maintenance bay and start doing whatever you need to do.

However to get there there would be a couple things should be done:
- POS setup should be made much easier and faster (reduction of anchoring times, anchoring queue and many other things people have suggested over the years)
- Remove the pos anchoring notification to sov owners (now that poses are no longer tied to sov it's not essential)
- Remove the restriction of pos on moon only and / or only one pos per moon.
- allow rorqual to carry non industrial ships
- add a pos clone bay or a jump capable shuttle.


(Some of those ideas that I've posted probably have major flaws and there's enough topics and posts about POSes to get something out of them, without the need to get another new ship, while leaving the existing solutions to rot in a broken state).
