I miss them, but, how about enhancing the missioning system to allow alliances, corporations and individual players to create missions and optionally take the part of some of the NPC's?

We could run our own events, at our own cost, and such a system could also be tailored to enhance some of those 'white board' features the devs posted a while back.

As an example, to enable the defenses of your 'home' you would have to hire NPCs, equip and fund them, etc. To disable your homes defenses someone else would need to successfully complete that 'mission'.

If you happen to be on-line when it's all going down you have the option of 'playing' one of the NPC's, or, just going in with your main as 'back-up'...

Or something like that. I used to play LARP in the early 90's and once one of my NPC's survived and went on to become one of the players arch enemies. It was almost as much fun playing the NPC as my PC character.

I'm not saying we get to actually write the missions just sacrifice ISK/equipment to set the mission toughness or provide fun loot etc.

So, what exactly is stopping you from getting a few friends and run your very own incursion into someone else's space?

Nothing and we do, occasionally. It take a lot of logistics and organisation though.

I was thinking about what the devs said about giving small gangs and individuals strategic stuff to do and this seemed like an interesting way of doing that.

As an example..

To keep your home base safe you need to power shield generators, to keep the power generators safe you need to damp their signal source. You end up creating 3-5 missions to detect and destroy the signal damping systems, now you can probe for the power generators, now you have 3-5 missions to destroy the power generators, now once my home bases cap battery runs out.. you can attack it.

The missions themselves could be based on a static format but with content that can be buffed by the player. i.e. I could give my NPCs t2 weapons (and hence loot) and faction frigates. Some items would be prescriptive. i.e. you must buy/produce a power dampening array. You can have no more than X damping systems and/or generators (limiting the super rich from making a 50 mission arc just to destroy one remote base)

The ability to take over one of the NPCs would be a lot of fun too although some thought would need to go into that (can't leave grid? can't leave system? can't fly off with critical mission drop item...? YARRRR!!)...
