I'm not sure that China would be happy if the former Soviet states started sending those vast untapped Siberian resources to North America...

Well they would have to build their own road and then offer a better price for the goodies than the US offer.

It would be cheaper and easier to sabotage the Bering Straight tunnel.

Building a Sino-Soviet trade route would be easier and cheaper, but are the Russians still not fond of the Chinese?

Road Trip:

Lisbon Portugal to Key West in Florida. (or for real fun, Lisbon to Buenos Aires in Argentina, with a pit stop in Cape Town South Africa).

They're crafty those russians, thinking longterm when China dictate world politics they'll put forth their case that the purchase of Alaska should be voided and the state handed back to them.

See how they'll pull a Kosovo on the state first by inserting immigrants to back their claim to it.

No, no, you have it all wrong.

The Bering Strait tunnel is actually being funded by the Chinese. (Does anyone think the Russians can actually afford to build it?)

Here's the game plan:
The Chinese will offer to buy Alaska in exchange for wiping out their chunk of the US debt. The Chinese will need the Bering Strait tunnel to supply Chinese Alaska. The US will accept the deal because:

a) it reduces the US debt,

b) allows the US to scare the US population into an arms buildup with the Evil Red Chinese Menace,

c) a huge arms build up will get the US out of the Second Great Depression,

d) it gives the US a reason to invade Canada on the grounds that the US cannot rely on a weak and militarily ineffectual Canada to keep Chinese Alaska in check,

e) it gives the US a reason to invade Canada for its natural resources and prime farmland (now that Global Warming has defrosted Canada),

f) it gives the US an excuse to get rid of Palin by assigning her to the US embassy in Chinese Alaska, and

g) the US can trust Palin to clumsily insult the Chinese, thus increasing tension to the point that the US can use force of arms to take Alaska back.

Don't any of you guys know Alaska' unofficial motto?

"Welcome to Alaska. Now go home." And that goes double for Russians (and their Tu-95 Bear bombers).

Do any of you seriously think the Big $$$ Environmentalist lobby would allow anything so ambitious as a Bering Sea railroad link? Never mind that there is literally no infrastructure on EITHER coast line. The closest highway to Alaska's west coast is hundreds of miles away. I mean, the Channel Tunnel is already a financial sinkhole, despite the short length of the Chunnel and heavily populated, wealthy regions on both sides.

We haven't built a highway in this state in 35 years. Our governor proposed building a road along the Yukon River and link up some of the jobless, hopeless Eskimo villages, and he runs into a buzzsaw of resistance from anti-development lib-tards and greenies.

We can't drill for oil in places where there is oil in abundance, despite the Alaska Pipeline being at <35% capacity.

We try to fire up a brand new coal power plant in Healy, but can't get the Obama's EPA to OK it. Can't even get the Knik Arm bridge built - despite it being a 'shovel-ready' slam dunk, because some idiot labelled it 'bridge to nowhere', without checking his facts first.

Yeah, a rail-link would be cool, but unless you slap a muzzle on the Big money Environmental lobby, and then find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow - it ain't gonna happen.

I agree with both points. Russians will never find money for it. American enviro****es will always block it.

However. If it really is a Chinese idea, they might be able to get it started, maybe even get it done. They have enough money for the Russians and they have enough people in DC.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Hopefully it won't come to that, though I have no doubt that this is Obama's long-range plan. Once the budget-busting, dream-vacationing, "Let them eat cake" Negro president is gone, we'll get a Balanced Budget Amendment passed, roll back his job-killing 'green economy' regulations, and get the economy rolling again.

Obama's administration will go down in history as the 'affirmative action' presidency. Laughing
