I recently noticed I have -4.03 standings with the Amarr Empire and -2.78 standings with Caldari State. I realize this has to do with missions I have taken. What I was wondering is will this prevent me from entering Amarr and Caldari systems? Will I be attacked on site as soon I enter these systems? Also, what can I do to correct this without jepordizing other faction standings?

When you drop to -5.0 or below with a faction, their navy will shoot at you.

Accepting non-kill storyline missions will eventually drop you to -5.0 with the opposing faction and no lower if you don't do anything else.

Accepting any mission or storyline that is a faction kill mission (look for a faction icon in the mission briefing) will rapidly drop you all the way to -10.0 with that faction.

You can always do level 1 missions for a faction and grind back up to positive with them.

I personally decline all missions/storylines vs. player factions, and I only accept storylines if I really want the faction gain or the reward.

At -5.00 or lower Faction standing, Empire Navy NPC's will attack when you enter that specific Factions space.

At -4.99 or higher Faction Standing, safe travel can still be done.

Check out the Faction Standing Repair Plan.

Two things only.
First, easiest, most relevant : alter effective standings while not changing base ones - train "Diplomacy".
With L5 diplomacy, a roughly -8.74 base standing turns into a roughly -4.99 effective standing, which prevents the navies of that faction from attacking you while you're in that space.

Second, hardest, limited opportunities, run epic arc missions.
The epic arc missions standings rewards are unique in the fact they don't trigger derived standings.
As such, those are the only ways you can alter your base standings with one faction WITHOUT losing standings with the "enemies" of that faction.

Also note that it is much faster for you to gain standings from negative starting amount, than it is to get it up from a positive. You should be able to rapidly increase your standings to above -5.0
