I have an idea that puts hard caps on how many ships can be on a grid at any given time a single corp/alliance based on the fleet mechanic in the game.

Currently the size of a fleet is limited to the skills someone has trained up in leadership. Currently there is no limit to how many fleets can be on grid at any given time. Nor is there a limit as to how many fleets a corp/alliance can have active at one time. What if there were?

What if There was a maximum to how many fleets an alliance could have at any given time? What if there was a limit to how many fleets could be on grid at any given time, with a cap to how many any particular corp/alliance can have within that greater total, regardless of their size/composition? (For example: if the max number of fleets allowed on a grid was 6, no single alliance/corp could have more than 2 fleets on grid at any given time. Potentially allowing one faction to call in assistance from a 3rd faction or for that 3rd faction to attack the other two warring fleets.) What if there was a maximum cap to classes of ships within a fleet? max number of Each class of ship based on T1 configurations... i.e. Super Caps, Capitals, BS, BC, Cruiser, Destroyer, Frig. I am not suggesting what these caps should be, just the idea that maybe they would make for more complex and interesting fleet warfar and a much greater deversification of ships used within a fleet.

I understand that an idea such as this would have a dramatic effect on the game and would require substantial balancing to make this work, to include a complete EHP overhaul of some ship classes and structures/deployables (i.e. P.O.Sís and P.O.S. Modules) to make the time it would take a fully fielded fleet to take down an undefended P.O.S something that could be done in an hour. However, it could allow fleets to employ different strategies and potentially help eliminate the cookie cutter fleet compositions that exist now in large fleet warfare. This would also benefit small gang / guerilla warfare. A specialized group would be effectively able to move in on a large fleet and disrupt key ships within that fleet making them a softer target for their other lager fleet to engage.
This may make it possible for certain ship classes that have previously not had much use to be used again or for certain ships to be rebalanced to fill rolls within this fleet structure dynamic. Perhaps the different inherent EW strategies that each race uses could be used more effectively within this concept, or a blend of those strategies could emerge to be the better, but not unbeatable strategy.

EvE is always changing. Perhaps this is a worthy enough idea to consider implementing within the future vision of eve.

So 6 blue corps form six one man fleets, and lock out an enemy from entering a system entirely as a fleet? What is the purpose of this idea?

Conversely, just don't form fleet and use voice comms to coordinate, circumventing this entirely.

What it boils down to is, putting artificial limits on player participation in anything is problematic, as players will always find a way around it/to use it to their advantage.
