I've read a ton threads from both sides regarding hi sec/null sec income balancing. Why not make hi sec life a little more interesting vs. nerfing it?

We have Sansha Incursions as a start but we've got all these pirate factions with nothing to do. Why not have some EVE equivalents of the wandering super mob in EverQuest? Just as the griffin in EQ killed the guy half asleep wandering around east commons, why not have a rat suicide squad show up and suicide/rob miners if they aren't aligned and can't warp out on time? Bonus points if they bring a transport and tractor the wreck... Maybe the mission gate is occasionally a trap and you have to pay your "ransom" to the rats or face a small force of NPCs that could be a reasonable threat to a mission runner? Make those lazy NPC pirates work for a living... Seems like the Sansha do all the work....

It doesn't need to happen often to add a little spice to the game. Maybe something like that appears in a hi sec constellation once every hour or two.... just often enough to catch people if they get too complacent and aren't paying attention too often.

You're missing the point. There's talk about nerfing high-sec because CCP wants to "encourage" people to go out into low-sec, null-sec, and WH-space. Currently, more than 80% of all players reside in high-sec.

I've always loved ideas like this. Not only is it funny (mainly due to the sheer randomness of it) but it also encourages people to be more leery of their surroundings and take steps to prepare themselves. Sure, some may loose a ship or an industrial filled with ships... but then again, you should have had an escort/scout working for you. Twisted Evil

Gate rats in high sec please. That'd be a simpler fix.

I actually really do believe this might encourage people to low/null. If people are used to the idea that being stomped is part of the game early, its not as big of a deal when it happens in null/low. As long as people view losing their ship as something that really doesn't happen in hi sec its really easily to rationalize not risking a ship in low/null and taking the loss.

Also look at this from a risk/reward perspective. This balance is adjusted some because we've raised the risk in hi sec.... Consider this from the miners perspective... I can mine in hi sec. I'm generally safe but I'm might get scrammed/popped by the guristas. Alternatively I can mine in null which means I can get roaming gangs which are visible in local but I'll make more and rat wise all I have to deal with is the normal null belt rats...

nerfing highsec in any way will not force people to nullsec, it will force people to quit.
you want people in low/null fix the mechanics people dont want to deal with, i would do FW if it didn't seem ******ed
i would go lowsec if everyone wasn't always NBSI

i would join a nullsec alliance if it wasnt
hi we rent u must pay tax
CAT come or ur kicked no matter what
lol lets attack our blues
lol lets blue everyone
lol lets bott, ur not allowed to attack members in our bot corp.
capship or just leave

Maybe you should find a less terrible alliance then? or you could always get the slightest clue about what you're talking about, that works too Very Happy

Actually he pretty much described 99% of alliances. I would say thats pretty accurate. "lol lets blue everyone" that describes a good 75% of 0.0 alliances."CAT come or ur kicked no matter what" that pretty much describes another 20% of 0.0 alliances. And the rest describes the other ones pretty much.

Most 0.0 sov holders that are not renters require CTA. Someone has to defend the space. The problem here is you always have to defend the space or you become nomadic pvpers like PL and just move around which only appeals to a select few. To much time spent in taking and defending space in this game. That is the problem 0.0 is consumed with taking and defending space with not much else to do. I cant remember the last time that i could just chill out for a few months and just do roams / gatecamps/ and carebear stuff. without having to try to take someones space or defend my own with/against mega fleets. When i started playing a few years ago. solo pvp was disappearing. Now its almost non existent and small gang pvp is disappearing. If your not taking 49 other people with you on a roam you might as well stay home and spin in the station. I remember when you could roam 0.0 with 3-5 people and get a few kills and even survive not anymore.

@Herping - CCP is trying to nudge you into 0.0. But not the 0.0 you know now. They are trying to fix it so it is easier on smaller groups/individuals and more appealing to those groups while trying to break up the napfest and making sov warfare not the most boring thing you can do in eve.

I dont think CCP intended for people to make a career out of hisec. I think it was suppose to be a stepping stone as you learned the game and got your skills up so you can handle tougher rats and more experienced players.

One of the things your post reminded me of is something which is called 'Hulkageddon' - a bunch of players going into gank ships and actually making a competition of shooting the most hulks in high sec for one weekend or one week or something.

You see, the community is not powerless...
