For a long time now I have been wondering whether the tier 2 battlecruisers ended up upsetting the class balance in EVE. Medium weaponry combined with low cost, high dps, high hitpoints and high versatility might be a little bit too much allround. Could it be that cruisers, tier 1 BCs, command ships, HACs, BS and even AF have been made considerably less viable by the tier 2 BCs?

If so, would a better defined role for the hurricane/myrmidon/drake/harbinger help make the other ship classes more viable again in their roles?

I realize how popular these ships are, so I can't say I'm expecting much support for these ideas. Razz Anyway, just try to imagine all of them with one slot less to force them more into a specific role.

The suggested changes:
- hurricane: -1 high slot (may still be overpowered, maybe tweak CPU)
- myrmidon: -1 high slot (doesn't affect the myrm much, but it seems fairly balanced already)
- harbinger: -1 medium slot (pushes it more into a specific role and forces more choices)
- drake: -1 low slot (reinforces its role and forces more compromises to be made)

All in all I think EVE would benefit from some minor nerfs to the versatility of ships or some minor boosts to the specific role of certain ships. This will make it easier to develop different counters and encourages tactics using multiple ship classes.

Another idea that runs along the same line would be the removal of dronebays on all capitals.

Not a bad idea although removing the tier concept and buffs to most Command Ships (other than the Sleipnir) would still be necessary. The Nighthawk for example would need to swap a low slow for another medium slot and get at least an additional 100 PG to be worth it for its added cost over a Drake (even as nerfed by you).

The idea seems sound at first, though there might be issues later on. The ships you mentioned aren't invalidated, I know a lot of people whom use cruisers in PvP because of their low cost alone. And HAC's can deal some serious hurt, I know, I've felt it many times before.

THAT said, even as a drake pilot and passionate fan of Caldari, I think these ships, most of them, are due a nerf. The myrmidon got a nerf with the shortening of it's drone bandwidth, why not all the others?

The Myrmidon can still be validated by the fact of it's still monstrous tank, six high slots and still generous drone systems, making it able to reach excellent amounts of both firepower and tank at once. But even still, there are reasons to fly smaller ships. I know for a fact that a Vexor alone can reach 700 DPS, just slap blasters on there. But the others are less well rounded. Take minmatar for instance. Why fly a rupture when you can fly a hurricane?

I also think these ships are most used simply because of their cost/effectiveness ratio. As powerful as a BS with the tracking to deal with smaller targets, and not a huge amount more expensive when vs cruisers.

i think what should happen is moar battlecruiser but with differnt roles not nerfing current favorites...
drone/EW amarr BC for example u know an arbitrator with more tank and maybe come weapons (even if its lol missile amarr boat)

I like the idea of making battlecruiser choice more of a tradeoff between flexibility and power. However if we were to reinforce the trend of making tier1=jackknifes and tier2=focused, there are a few changes that could be made to tier1 BCs as well.

For instance, the Brutix could gain some much needed flexibility by trading a medium slot for a utility high. The Ferox also could use greater versatility even if you Drake nerf was implemented. An expansion of Ferox dronebay and bandwidth to 50 might be one solution here.

Perhaps someone can enlighten me about how to increase the utility of the Prophecy - I know nothing about this ship except that I rarely see them in PvP except as bait (do we really need a 220k ehp T1 BC?). From a glance the role bonus of reduced cap usage seems only useful for PvE.

And CCP, don't touch the Cyclone - that ship is perfect.
