Its pretty crazy that local chat has been the way it is for so long even though it screams for a redesign. I feel that local forces capable players in to dull pvp tactics and at the same time makes it too easy for player that need to learn, to avoid conflict.

I feel local chat encourages blob warfare and is limiting the imagination of the player base. Therefore, I think the different security zones should be set up as follows:-

High sec - Local channel, Concord, gate/station guns
Low sec Local, gate/station guns
Null sec Destructible local; the sovereignty holder should be able to install a communications array that enables local. The catch is that this array can be destroyed relatively easily.
Wormhole space - your only warning is d-scan and eyes on

Do you agree or am I talking rubbish?

Removing local boosts blob warfare (why not bring the largest blob possible if they wont know anyway how many people are going to fight them) and limits the imagination of the player base by forcing everyone to spam the dir scan button, which is horrible game design.

No removal of local before there is a way better scanner and other problems are fixed.

I appreciate your input but i don't see how it would increase blob warfare. In WH space it's mainly small gangs.

If you entered a null sec system with local turned off and you don't see anyone on d-scan, what are you going to do... request a 20 man fleet to escort you on the off chance there is a stealth bomber cloaked up in system? Wink

Edit: I do agree that the scanner needs some improvements though.

I guess to remove the local chat in null sec and wormhole is against the eve philosophy. I mean, I guess in eve the spaceships do have a way to communicate to the whole solar system on their own, without the need of relays of some sort.

So we should always be able to chat in local.

BUT the fact that we SEE who is in local should be changed. In wormholes you do not see who is there before they talk. This should be this way in all system by default, with the following changes: in high sec and low sec we can imagine concord or the local forces to have put a ship scanner in the system so the name of the ship owner appears in the local. And in null sec it could be as you said, as in wormholes but you can put this kind of ship scanner in the system, who could be destroyable. So without this technology you cannot know who is in the system before he talks...
