The universe of eve... aahh so far in the future, so far that we have jump drives, jump clones and all the amazing technology you can think of.

Then we got a super mega crap scanner...
It shows nothing, it does not even detect basic coordinates to warp towards an object, it's simply ridiculous and with no sense at all.
But all that can be accepted for gameplay sake, that's fine.

But what i really can't understand is why the range text box must be so idiot......

2147483647Km..... what the flak is that?!

Why can't we put AUs in it?
tl;dr We should be able to choose between AUs and Kms and even mix them, for example: 4AU and 350000Km

Why not?
What do you think?

Cheers.

I agree in part. The scan range should just be in AU and it should be a drop-down manual instead of manual input.

Fair enough Wink
Oh and i thought about the drop-down menu too, i forgot to mention it -_-
That would be good.

I agree with the OP concerning the lack of sense for the actual scanner method and the absolute absence of love given to this subject by CCP.

I would go further on implementing this tool. In a 3D Universe where the scan range is supposed to be working we get only crap information: no coordinates to warp to ( some things on scan range should be reasonable enough for being able to warp to directly), no spatial references of any type ( any spatial display, in a more simple and quick way than scanning with probes, would be fantastic. Kind of hologram, if you like it ) and crappy control adjustments in a large Universe where distances are measured in AUs.

As the main detection system inboard for any ship on the game IŽd like to see a consistent revamp for adding dynamism to the game instead of dealing with the already accepted "pain in the arse" of using the scanner because you have nothing better at hand unless you actively probe against something/someone if you need it.

The value of 2147483647 comes from it being the largest number an int32 variable can contain afaik... that being said, being able to switch to an AU measurement would be very useful. Supported.

So you can set up an automatic macro on your Logitech keyboard? Not gonna happen.

what a stupid argument, we have already shortcuts for all possible things but the scanner requires a button click.

agreed, having distances in AU's would be much more useful, and doing little against balancing..

Dang, do a little mental math. I mean, everyone knows that 1 astronomical unit = 149597870.691 kilometers, right? So simply shows a range of 14.355 AU max.

I heartily support not having to have to google conversion rates in the middle of trying to dscan a moving target based on how far away he is

I know this isn't ideal, but a notepad sticky in game with the conversions broken down in 1AU increments helps a little.

Not saying it couldn't use a tweak, showing AU as well as KM, (separate boxes perhaps, show both), but it helps to have the sticky on hand.

wspace scouts actually have a brain and aren't high school dropouts, ranging with even detail is an important daily activity :P

I agree that directional scanner is total bull****. Here's some things which would make it less crap:

- option to input distance in AU
- scale angle slider so it's easier to pick small angles. some kind of exponential scale maybe? or alternatively add buttons like [5] [15] [30] [60] [90] etc.
- sorting by distance should put items outside grid furthest instead of closest when you sort item so closest are on top
- it is difficult to see where you are pointing on small angles maybe some help "lines" or "vectors" would be useful.

Those are all very needed. Great contribution.
