Now, before you go all CCP VERITAS on me about this being another Hybrid thread
, hear me out.
THIS THREAD IS ACTUALLY NOT JUST ABOUT HYBRIDS! IT ALSO HAS PICTURES! PRETTY PICTURES!
It’s true! This thread is actually also about a few other things, but they all relate to ‘fixing’ hybrids so to say – one way or another. So, to get started... :clears throat:
As you all know, Hybrids are currently one of the weapons systems that are considered ‘broken’ or otherwise silly to use in a lot of situations. Blasters aren’t in as big of a predicament as Railguns, so here are the headlines of what I’ll be discussing:
- HYBRID AMMO
- GALLENTE SHIPS & BLASTERS
Now that the introduction is out of the way, let the fun begin!HYBRID AMMO:
One of the first things that jumped into my eye and tore at my retinas was just how stupid the current ammunition system for Hybrids is. It neither takes into consideration the fact that the weapon system has reload times, nor the fact that the range bonuses are useless for ½ of the weapons they are intended to be used in.

Done reading that? Good, then here is what I would propose.RAILGUNS:
As you may or may not be aware of, Railguns are the runt of the litter when it comes to long range weapons systems. They have nothing really going for them. Taking into consideration the section on Hybrid ammo, I intended to do a quick comparison to find some kind of base to work from. Little did I expect that Railguns have NO ADVANTAGE IN ANY FIELD WHATSOEVER (if you ignore their meagre optimal range superiority).So here is said comparison, on a Rail(gun)GALLENTE SHIPS & BLASTERS:
Gallente ships were originally intended as Hull tanking ships (A/N:<insert pun about real men>), however this was changed to favour armour systems (some ships can also shield tank well, see the Myrmiddon). However, somewhere in the process, it was completely forgotten that ships need to compliment their intended primary weapons system.
This is apparent when you look at the Thorax: As anyone with PvP experience will tell you, if you get into blaster range with a Thorax, it will completely and utterly **** your face. The issue is that the Thorax lacks the ability to actually get in your face – it simply doesn’t have the speed to do so, even with an MWD.
What I would propose is the following (no fancy pictures here, sorry, it’s not that complicated an idea):
- Increase Gallente ships base speed across the board
- Decrease Gallente ships agility across the board
With these changes Gallente should become the fastest race in a straight line, but be horrible at orbiting at close range (this also compliments Blasters low tracking – with the ammo suggestion, I believe this would put them into an adequate position and role).
According to that proposition, here is a look at how the new changes would classify the races in terms of base speed and agility: Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.
