Hi Guys.

I am about to buy an Abaddon. I have a fitting that looks good in EFT (see below), and I will try it out once I have the ship.

I am going to be using Navy Crystals and obviously I don't want to buy 8x set of each.

Which 3 would you recommend? I have looked at the ranges each give and have marked the ones I am considering with a "*".

Crystal : Optimal Range + Fall-off = Max Range.
Multifrequency* : 29+19 = 48km
Gamma : 36+19 = 55km
Xray : 43+19 = 62km
Ultraviolet? : 50+19 = 69km
Standard* : 58+19 = 77km
Infrared : 69+19 = 88km
Microwave* : 81+19 = 100km
Radio : 92+19 = 111km

The reason I flagged Microwave is that my max targeting range is 100km... so no point in getting Radio.

I am pretty new to lasers so if I missed something or miss understood something feel free to mention it.

TIA

PS: As a reference, here is the fitting I am going to be using (Going to swap out with Faction/DED mods as I can afford them):

I have no idea what your skills are, but I think you are far too worried about cap stability. The Abbadon can put out some nice DPS even with Meta 4 guns, your DPS is the best tank you have, watch your triggers and kill the biggest things first. I used to have a pure-Amarr alt (sold last year) and ran something like this (with T2 guns in my case) for grinding missions, you only rep when you need to -

[Abaddon, M4 Guns]

If you want to snipe stuff, use an Apocalypse instead. As for crystals, get MF, UV, and Radio.

Thanks.

That is just one of the fits I was looking at. I am trying for cap stability for a while just so I can learn to use the lasers properly. Once I am more confident with the fitting I will start "trimming".

As for skills;
Currently Training Amarr BS 4
Next Large Energy Turret to 5, after that starts the T2 Laser training. (I am training Large Energy Turret to 5 1st because so I can get the benefit immediately... and to get the longest skill in the T2 Energy Turrets out of the way. :)
All tanking & Gunnery support skills are on 4
Also going to train Rapid Firing to 5 in addition to the T2 requirements.
I have 3% Turret RoF and 3% Turret Tracking Implants.

Here is the fit that I was considering using after I am used to armour tanking and lasers;

[Abaddon, Abaddon LvL4 Alt]
Large Armor Repairer II
Armor Mission Hardener II
Armor Mission Hardener II

You probably don't want to hear this, but in my experience an Abaddon all but requires great skills to outmatch an Apoc in missions. With "just" spec 3 pulses and all 5 gunnery supports (well, at the time Trajectory Analysis was at 4, but that's hardly relevant) and BS 4 it just... I don't know. I wasn't happy with it. I was getting similar or better mission completion times with a Sleipnir and occasionally swapping to a Raven just to outlast long missions through kiting.

A few months and a few more skills later, the Abaddon finally clicked. Now it's performing how I want it. But it really does deserve as much SP love as you can possibly give it.

(Now I'm selling it. No reason to keep it around with both Cal BS 5 and Marauders 5 at my disposal. Maybe if it weren't rigged for PvE, but it is....)

I carry the following crystals in my mission ships:
Imperial Navy multifrequency and ultraviolet
Multifrequency, ultraviolet, and radio

I use radio so infrequently that I don't bother with the faction crystals. It is sometimes useful if you are being tracking disrupted.

firstly. I like that youre picking Abaddon. I think this ship returns 10fold the love you're giving it.

I've always flown tachys.... on Baddon aswell as now on paladin. and it hink they have no problem at all at hitting stuff. More importantly.. hitting stuf very far away.

here's the fit i used (notice the empty gun slot?) put a tractor there. helps in damsel and other gundropping missions.

with dounble tracking comp you can make xray hit 60+40k away so there. no need to go any higher range damage.

there is absolutely no need for you to hit frigates.. thats what drones do.
And this ship cant be used for kill battleships first.
with this you need to kill cruisers/BCs first while they aproach to do full damage. Altho these tracking comps can hit 10km orbiting cruisers rather well considering these are tachies.

also i've discovered that in most missions the amount of cruisers you can alpha, even BC's you can alpha with this ship is eliminating enormeous amounts of damage from the field really fast... and you can let battleships get to theyr(and msotly your) optimal..

i use only Multi and x-ray crystals. saves the (having too many crystals with me) problem and i really dont need to shoot any farther.... ever...

and switch to navy eanm, repper, maybe even DED repper for more tank...
and i threw that cap relay in the low just to make it more apealing. switch it to heatsink or tracking enhancer when you dont need the learning curve cap anymore. both TE and HS work almost the same way depending on your playstyle.

my 2 sents.

The Abaddon is very skill dependent. While it has a generous allotment of powergrid, it gets very little in the way of capacitor. Moreover, it receives two very strong bonuses from your Amarr Battleship skill.

By the time you can actually fly that ship to its full potential, you'll be only a very short crosstrain from something better. Neutral

Edit: Marauders or Caldari Battleship, specifically.

I can already fly a Golem. I have T2 Torps and Cruises. I can fly a Tengu with T2 HAM. However I have been flying a SNI lately and missiles are fine and well but I want to have some fun while I am doing missions. I have always had a fondness for Amarr Ships, so decided to finally start training energy weapons to t2. Once they are there I just need to train Amarr BS5 then I can fly the Paladin.

I use 8x guns because I don't need a tractor or anything in that slot. I have an Alt in a Noctis so tractoring is his job. Smile

I am busy training my Energy Weapons to T2. Though the support skills are all on 4 it will take a while before I can alpha cruisers. In the meantime I take 2-3 shots on them, so I don't think it is too bad.

Thanks for the tops on the lows and the TC's. Will get them and start playing around.

Also I should mention that I am not flying alone. I have an Alt in a Noctis for salvage and another in another lvl4 BS. So 2x DPS ships = better than 1. :)
