Tengu Defensive - Supplemental Screening
Tengu Electronics - Dissolution Sequencer
Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay
Tengu Propulsion - Fuel Catalyst

Fitting is tight - 748.75 / 750 powergrid.

I have never flown a Tengu but have a character training up for one. I like the idea of a buffer fit so its not such a easy gank target but can still fit for high DPS.

This gives met 715 Scourge Fury DPS // 641 CN Scourge // 559 Scourge DPS

I figure since I have the Target Painter only 1 Rigor rig would really be needed.

Tank wise 114k EHP Omni // 180k EHP Kin/Therm (Damage type I would mostly be receiving for the ypes of missions I would run in this ship)

Passive 145 DPS Tank Omni // 227 DPS Tank Kin/Therm

Opinions on a fitting like this? Should I use different rigs? I have never used buffer tanks for mission ships, so depending on how much EHP is needed to buy enough time to kill all the mission NPCs I may be able to use different rigs.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi,

If you buffer-fit you Tengu for lvl4s, you will be taking a big risk without an active tank. Reason is because you stand a much higher chance of dying from webbing/scramming frigates. If a frigate webs you, your tengu will die surprisingly fast unless you can kill it in time, which does happen.

Because resists won't help you in this situation, I would say drop one of the invulnerability fields for your own webifier module, to enable you to slow down the frigs yourself if you do get caught out, making them easier to kill. People will disagree with me on this, but I find a webber more useful than a 2nd invul field, very useful on my HAM tengu, and it will be just as useful on a Heavy Missile Tengu.

A 2 billion isk Tengu and 145 DPS tank? I don't think you've thought your cunning plan all the way through.

You're a gank target with those 2 faction invulns...

Its not hard, just fit a single Gisti B small booster and 3 x CN BCUs, rest vanilla T2. If you are really paranoid fit a LSE but I dont think its necessary.

Using just these modules minimises your viability for being ganked but doesnt compromise your ability to tank + gank any Lvl4. Using 500m invulns in a fit that wont survive a number of missions, and is a gank worthy target however...

A Buffer tank is not the same as a Passive tank.

A passive tank is one that has the ability to passively repair itself without pilot intervention, a buffer is one that has lots of HP but once it's gone then so is your ship. There is no reason for using buffer tanks in PVE outside of fleets with Logisitics for 10/10s, incursions or some level 5s; or if you want to rat in 0.0 in a PVP fit.

With the Tengu 2 x pithi-C type small shield boosters, 1 x shield boost Amp, and an invulnerability field will tank all the Level 4s against Guristas/Serps/Caldari/Gallente quite easily.

Chickens :P

I fly this, never lost one. Sometimes the shield goes down to under 25%. So what, a bit of driving and targeting the right NPC and you are always ok. I do not even change the hardeners at all.

Its true, if you are actively flying this I'm sure you would never have any issues.

However for me sometimes I get inadvertently pulled away from a mission (PvP on my actual main, PvP with my GF, ~whatever) and with the active fit you can just leave your Tengu orbiting within the mission and it wont die, even if dual webbed. Buffer, passive, active, they are all the same speed at mission completion, just the active is a bit more flexible.
