This morning I was thinking about Vanity Items as if they were Computer Games, partially because of an earlier idea which involved the slow decrease of the price of vanity items over time.

Essentially, if a player really wants a game/vanity item, he will buy them for full price. If he doesn't as much, he may wait 3 months and buy it for 3/4 price.

However, that's not what this idea is about.

'Cause I was also thinking: Games get pirated. Some people will not pay anything for their games 'cause they just download them for free.

Well... we have pirate factions in the game. They'd want to look good like the rest of us, but without the Aurum (I actually don't think they even use PLEXes)

'Course, it should not be so common that people never buy Aurum stuff anymore. I'm also not against some items being strictly and only sold from the store. But, if a pair of pants isn't really sold anyway, why not make a shaggy, fake (different skin or something) True Sansha pair of pants? Chances are they end up being sold for more ISK then the real thing, impulsing the market and your AURUM sales.

I'm not exactly sure what you're suggesting, but the idea of having piratical vanity items is interesting. I won't buy them myself, but I can see the appeal of an eyepatch or something. And if they had a parrot you could buy to sit on your shoulder, I'd have to think long and hard about that one, I like the thought of it, lol.

Essentially, vanity items that drop from high-end NPC's, but are different from the AURUM-bought ones.

I like your idea, nevertheless YARRRR!! lol

I've suggested this multiple times, and I shall do so again:

Either:
-Introduce pirate vanity items that we can buy for AUR in NPC nullsec stations, in which case:
> Require standings with the pirate cartel in question (too bad that Guristas monocle needs 8.0 standings with Guristas to buy Laughing)
-Introduce pirate vanity items as drops from NPC drops, in which case:
> The more rare items are dropped by rarer NPCs(Guristas monocle, as an example would be dropped from an officer spawn Neutral)

The full idea involved makeing the vanity item store accept more than just AUR (ie. AUR + something else, like standings).

Ofcourse, above idea wouldn't restrict anyone from just buying said item on the market/contracts and just wearing it.
