I've spent the last few days digging up what I could with regards to the Jin-Mei and their background, so that I could create a believable character. I've trawled through pages of EvE forum searches as well as google and evelopedia. Its turned up very little. There's the basic bloodline information, some information on their home system and the obvious oriental link.

Basically, does anyone know if there is anything else? It seems such a shame to have so much potential but very little solid to work with.

Being a Jin-Mei myself, I've always held the belief that we are descendants of the Yan Jung. Their (former) system is relatively close by, their (former) planet is completely uninhabitable. This leads me to believe that they moved to the current Jin-Mei home system, perhaps running from a former enemy. Eventually, their history was lost, and the Jin-Mei culture was born.

How it is with every 3rd bloodline that CCP shoved in with little-to-no basis for existing other than to appease asians.

That said, Jin-mei specific items in-game include things like
Ancient Painblade
Starcakes
Kuashi

There is also "Avrue's Story" which has some interest. Pretty sure it was written before the Jin-Mei bloodline had even been conceived of though.

I am Avrue Auz, agent of Beizan Picholen. I came to Chandeille (Lirsautton V) eight years ago, during the height of the Picholen-Auboure family feud. Deni Picholen hired me as Beizan's secretary and financial manager. The Picholen family is quite wealthy, having long owned a number of franchises connected with Kaalakiota and their wares.

Anyway, the feud was quite draining on the Picholens, especially their wallet. But the biggest disaster the family had ever faced came only a few years ago. It was a dreadfully cold afternoon during the height of the Chabash winter on Chandeille when I received the news that a Picholen industrial had been caught by planetary security forces, trying to smuggle a troop of slaves and illegal combat boosters into Namin City. Speculation had it that the slaves were to be used as cheap manpower in a secret military operation directed against Auboure, named after its ancient ruling family.

To me, this siezure of assets was bad enough, but to make matters far worse, my employer, Beizan, was directly implicated in the deal, for the industrial smuggling the contraband had been rented in his name. It was a debacle. Kaalakiota canceled their multi-million ISK deal with Picholen, and the Governor of Chandeille placed a huge fine on the family that has basically crippled its financial status. In other words, the Picholens lost everything other than their name and sovereignity over Namin City. Most of their lands were confiscated, as well as their overseas bank accounts. I'm a bit surprised you haven't heard this story, in fact; it was all over the Federation media at the time.

But anyway, to cut the story short, Beizan was imprisoned in Pinmouth, an infamous Federation prison facility in Lirsautton, and resides there still. It is my firm belief, however, that Beizan is really innocent, and that is why I sent for someone like you.

You are not the first to have these thoughts and I find the it very fascinating. We do know that the Yan Jung settled in more systems than Deltole so I would like to extand the thought and suggest that maybe all the "asian" blood lines are descendants of the Yan Jung nation. Of course, still different blood lines just like the empires of to day consist of different blood lines.

The end of the Yan Jungs would be due the blood lines splitting up into individual nations that eventually ended up in different factions.

Maybe I should try to put this theory proberly together one day.

What makes you believe the 'Yan Jung' nation was Asian (Beyond the name) ?

Glad you asked, Wyke.

For one who likes to throw Wikipedia links around you should have tried to search on one of the few things we have been informed about regarding the Yan Jung: Middle Kingdom

EDIT: I had not done this search before you asked btw. and I feel stupid now that I missed this obvious explaination to the "mysterious" middle kingdom, considering just how many times I have seen the word 中国 and thought about its meaning.Neutral

Now we know the connection on a OOC level I feel even more motivated to make it IC.

Possibly, more specifically, Formosa, the Republic of China. Jin-Mei?

A Yuan is a branch of government in the ROC. Yuan=Yan?

I have been trying to tie the "Asian" bloodlines together and the Yan Jung do seem to be the posited "original stock". Taiwan, or the ROC, fits on many levels to my theory. The above Jin-Mei tie, and, in the north, is a mongolian precinct. The Ni Kunni seem to fit into this model as well. The Amarr, seem to have recognized the Yan Jung traits in the Ni Kunni and exploited them for their talents as smugglers and an "underground culture"[1].

Further ties of the Jin-Mei to Chinese culture include it's caste system, which has undertones in all of New Eden, Jin-Mei cultural imperatives about "benevolent rulership" and their symbology.

Doing a search of news stories for "Jin-Mei" brought up this interesting article about a dispute between FedMart and the Jin-Mei government.

It introduces the theme of local autonomy for the Jin-Mei much in the same way people might be more familiar with the Intaki.

Other articles of interest focussed on the Presidental candidate, Celes Aguard, who had mixed Gallente / Jin-Mei heritage.
