Honest question; Aside from the cost are there any situations in PVE or PVP where a cerb is better/more useful than the tengu?

I ask because I am considering these ships for soloing minmatar lvl 4 FW missions (which often includes some PVP). And yes I know a bomber can do it, but its slower. Cheers.

When you say cost you include the skill points lost when you're killed in a t3 right?

yeah that is a pretty obvious drawback, but not one that would stop me using a tengu tbh so that and the few hundred mil extra it costs are not factors for me. cheers.

I used to run FW missions for Gallente. I found a Cerberus was a very effective ship because I didn't have to sit by the warp in point. Due to the intense jamming, I usually dual boxed with an Ishtar. Since you won't have to worry about jamming, I think a Cerberus is a fine choice.

Hell No!

And if you have to ask such a question, you shouldn't fly either of them.

The fact that your asking this means you know nothing about either of these ships or their roles. Spend some time Doing your homework. No, this is not homework.

The cerb is a one trick pony. IT's trick is lobbing missiles an extremely long way.
IF you can't think of a use for that trick, then don't use the cerb.

It works nicely with both heavy missiles - 180km-250km with rigs.
Or light missiles - which go 100km or so if you do it right.

Look at it in this context - at 250km, it's doing the DPS that's comparable to a BS at a similar range - indeed, many BS can't even engage at that range.

Drake is better than the Cerberus, unless you care about minor differences in speed, agility and signature radius.

And range. Don't forget the range.
But yes, for most purposes the Drake is better.

Thanks for the info, and the predictable trolling.

Special message for "Elan" that particularly dense, unintelligent type of troll; I've been playing 5 years+ but for the most part have been Gallente / Minnie spec'd, and so no - I don't have a lot of experience flying Caldari ships which is why I getting other more experienced peoples opinions.

I know their stats on paper, have faced both ships regularly and I can see the advantage of long range and an immunity to tracking disruption in Minnie FW missions. My question was a fair one though, and obtuse idiotic answers like "go do your homework" only goes to show what an asshat you are.

So thanks all those that did actually answer the question and offer something to this thread. I think the Cerb will work just fine for my PVE purpose but may be too long range for solo (mid-mission) PVP - I'll try that first anyway and see how it goes then upgrade to a closer range Tengu depending on how much PVP I see. Ta.

So why not use Heavy Assault Missiles on the Cerb? At least on paper it looks pretty good and would most likely be what I'd do with the Cerb.

Yeah fair point, but just not sure if 6k shield at 80% resists would be enough vs the amarr npcs at <49km (my skills say 304 DPS which is with 2 BCUs, 1 PDS, 1 Nano, MWD, LSE, 2 EM resists, point and arbelasts, plus range and velocity rigs).

I think I'd need more range than HAMs for the NPCs tbh, but yeah worth a try.

cerb is ****e because its ehp is that of a fat frigate than a cruiser (let alone a heavy assault one)

The tengu offers better damage with similer usful range and ofc you get a tank, somthing the cerb can only pretend to do.

Hell ive seen cerbs one vollyed from a BS.

Tengu. But if you can't tell in how many ways it's better than a Cerb, stick to the Cerb because you won't fly the Tengu the way you should anyway..

Hi,

As other posters have stated, the Cerberus' main advantage is missile range. I will point out that this boat can fire HAMs from up to 59km away with top skills and rigs. No other ship can do that with HAMs.

That's at least 600 DPS from 55km+, which is very useful for PvP purposes if Kiting is a tactic you use.

You can also use that HAM setup to run lvl4 missions too if you so wish.

Doesn't work as well as it looks like, unfortunately. The Cerb is too tight on grid to do much when toting HAMs, and suffers badly from the lack of a dronebay.

Chances are pretty good that if you're using HAMs, the Drake's better - it loses some range, yes - but really, the difference between the 20km in a Drake, and the 40km in a Cerb is not as big as you might think - after all, most fights happen in/near point range, or well beyond.

And the Drake hits harder, has more tank, and a dronebay.

PVE HAM kiting fit with ~57km range + 550DPS (with the ZMC or ZML implant you can get 60km range)... T2 rigs, they aren't that expensive, you get ~51km with T1 rigs...

[Cerberus, HAM]

Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Terror Rage Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Terror Rage Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Terror Rage Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Terror Rage Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Terror Rage Assault Missile
[Empty High slot] (whatever)

Republic Fleet 10MN Afterburner
Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron
Pithi C-Type Small Shield Booster
Invulnerability Field II
Republic Fleet Large Shield Extender

Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

Medium Rocket Fuel Cache Partition II
Medium Hydraulic Bay Thrusters II

Biggest issue with it is you can't comfortably fit a MWD without a PG implant/RCU/2 x PDU.

However, this is good advice -

Does a Cerberus have enough gank to fly level 4 missions properly?

I've always heard that Drake had too few DPS, and I recently gave up flying level 4s in my Nighthawk, due to insufficient gankiness.

At one point, I did lo-sec level 4s in above fit I posted while waiting for gang to get their asses in gear (would dock up and change fit once ready). So, yes it is, obviously not the most efficient, and you are relying alot on your 'speed' to mitigate damage. The rigs are from a 200km+ HML sniper fit but serve an equal purpose in getting some range on the HAMs.

L4s are easy enough in a Drake/NH. Cerb will be harder work, because it's a cruiser, and it doesn't tank particularly well. But being able to stand off and spam missiles isn't so bad. It's just... well, at that point a Raven probably does it better.
