I see two figures in the 'defence' box:

- sustained defence efficiency 0
- Reinforced defence efficiency 219

So does that mean that my ship (armour tanking, btw) only tanks 219 dps?

TIA

without reps you will die fast, with reps turned on you can tank 219 dps.

Sort of. It means that you tank 219 EHP/s for as long as your capacitor lasts.. Because your "sustained defense efficiency" is zero, you have literally no capacitor left over to run your shield boosters or armor repairers once your turrets, ewar, or propulsion are accounted for.

You'll get that value for as long as your capacitor holds out -- and then your ship will go dead in the water until you give it time to regenerate.

(Also, am I the only one that thinks "reinforced" is a lousy term? "Burst" is far more descriptive, in my opinion...)

Yup, you have 219 tank against your selected damage profile. Which might and might not be relevant to you and what you're doing.

That or "peak". There has to be some sort of better way to label it.

Hrm. Well, with his question answered adequately, I hereby institute thread anarchy. This conversation is now about what we should rename capacitor-independent tanking.

Now selling thesauri. 2 million isk each.

Thanks for the replies, but now that I know what the figure indicates, I'm amazed at how 'low' the tanks seems, when I see people posting on the forums claiming 500 or 600 tank.

That figure of 219 came from using 4 T2 armour hardeners on a Typhoon FI, and I have a shield tank Mael fitted with X-L Shield booster II, 2 LSE II's and an Invuln II (it works for me lol) which is only 357.

Is it faction stuff that gives such a massive increase in tank? I use my BS's to run L3 (for quickness) or L4 missions

Shocked

It sounds like at least one of three things are happening here:

1) You're not fitting resist modules, or not fitting enough. If this is for PvE, you should usually be using at least two hardeners specific to the incoming damage type (EM/therm against Sanshas, Therm/Kinetic against Serpentis, etc.)
2) You haven't set the appropriate damage profile. If you're tanking against a specific damage type, be sure to configure EFT/Pyfa/EveHQ/GrandmasCalculator to reflect that. Google can help you figure out precisely how this is done.
3) Your skills are not high enough. Repair systems reduces the cycle time on armor repairers, for example.

Back on topic: I think I prefer burst to peak, but either would be preferable.

Thanks for the tip, Aamrr - I have set a damage profile, changed the hardeners, and the numbers have gone up somewhat

Any time. When a question is succinct and well-phrased, it's a pleasure to be of service.

Certainly beats the idiots in Incursion local chat. Rolling Eyes
