Just a quick question about RSDs:

If you RSD somebody that has already locked you, but the effect puts them out of locking range, will they lose their lock on you?

Example: Enemy ship is 80km away and has locked me. I RSD them and their locking range shrinks to 30km. Will they lose their existing lock on me?

Yes, they will lose lock.

Cool. And do they work on rats/npcs?

Honestly, I don't know. I would think so, but there's really not much benefit to spending an entire midslot so ONE out of thirty people can't shoot you anymore.

My guess is "yes, but why would you want to?"

tbh RSD were usefull when you could snipe... but now that sniping is dead so too are RSD (though some people still use them in ultra niche scenarios)

imo to fix RSD just change them to add in the abilty to actually reduce the sensor strenth... that way with one RSD and one multispec you could keep a player from targeting...

Commander spawns maybe. It'd be quite niche though, I'm just trying to think of any reasonable possibilities.

damp nerf a few patch ago + sniping nerf a couple of patches ago + probing boost last patch + unprobable nerf = useless damps

So what's a better ewar module to use then? ECM?

anything but damps.
TDs are fine esp as noone but a few zealots fly missiles in PVP Shocked They are also very useful on long range weapons pvp setups.
ECM is unreliable on unbonused ship but boy, does it **** enemy off when it works Laughing
TP is useful too, esp if you are missile boater or simply in a gang.

IMO, all those various EW systems can be useful now and then.

But they really shine on the Recons.

ECM is alright, but a Falcon can ruin anyone's day.

Damps may be good sometimes, but teaming up with an Arazu can lead to all sorts of giggles.

Last I checked it wasn't even that good.... NPCs have basically infinitely long lock range and are triggered to de-aggress by proximity to a point in space and not by distance to a target. Once you have their attention I'm not sure it's possible to damp them down.

RSD were uneffected by the sniper nerf/scanning boost. RSD have never had the range to be used with snipers. Their range is 30km + 60km fall off. Max skills that goes up to 45km + 90km, so unable to damp anyone over the 150km snipe range effected by the scanner boost.

Basically, RSD's are fine with arty groups or scorch pulse BS's

Damps are not useless and are more than useful than just niche situations. Although to be fair ECM will be more useful in most situations, Damps i feel work well at negating enemy logistics where ECCM is more likely to be fitted. You can cause logistics to either be useless or close range to rep in which case they Should be easy pickings. it also can be very useful for kiting in a nano fleet when combined with the point range bonus on a arazu or lachesis (have not done the last one myself so not sure how fast an Arazu can get, but the idea seems valid to me). A Lachesis/Arazu with a cynnabel/vaga seems like a great combo in theory.

Also ecm + scan resolution dampening is very very annoying, especially for the big ships.

For those that laugh at RSD's, I will take exception. Just like any EWAR module, including ECM, if they are used in an unbonused situation, then are not great.

But if used on a ship that is bonused for them, they are lethal.

On my Zu and Lach (I have Recon V), with 2 EWAR boosting rigs, I have a 56.23% effectiveness with each module at 42km (level 4 in that range skill). Even after the stacking nerf, I have a 77.7% damping effectiveness with just 2 dampeners. (meta 4 or T2 have same effectiveness, so the meta 4's are better to use.)

Let's look at a small sample of ships' targeting range before and after the application of 2 dampeners.

Assume the ships below have the 10% targeting range bonus that a good FC gives a squad.

Hurricane: 61.88/ 13.85 km
Drake: 82.5/ 18.46 km
Zealot: 75.63/ 16.93 km
Vagabond: 68.75 / 15.39 km

Now, with Recon V my warp scram works out to 18 km without overheat. I can buy a Dread Guristas scram pretty cheap, and now I am out to 21 km without overheat.

At 21 km, none of these ships can target me, and I have them scrammed, which means they won't be closing on me unless they had an a/b fitted.

The Arazu fitted with 2 RSD's can still do 249 DPS at 18km (my skills, and fitted with warriors as anti-drone drones) and stay out of targeting range of just about any ship smaller than a BS.

The Lach will do 283 DPS with my skills.
Neither is enough to kill a ship fast, but they are certainly powerful enough to essentially hold a target ship in place for a long, long time. Long enough for your friends to arrive with some gank boats.

The other ships mite be screwed but that drake should have some fof on hand for ecm so it would work just as well for dampers too though I dont know if they would save it or not in time before gank team shows up.ugh

But if there out there solo pop them.ugh

As for RSD's they work good some times better becouse there not over used like Jamming is. In fact as stated above all E-war is killer on the ships built for them with bounses.

How ever I personly feel the main reasons RSD's are not used as much is do to the weapon systems on the Gallent line up of ships aka Hybirds that come on Gallent ships just blows when compared to other weapon systems.Rolling Eyes

Damps work great 1v1 or in ganks (again, vs 1 hostile). However, their usefulness begins to drop heavily when there are more hostiles. 1. because its pretty much a 1:1 relationship to how many ships a damp ship can remove from the fight. 2. because recons are so fragile that it is too easy for the extra hostiles to remove the damp ship from the fight (destroy or force off the field)

With more midslots the damp ships might work better, but since it takes 2 damps to be effective enough to be worth the bother and you're unlikely to be able to convincingly fit more than 3 damps, 9/10 you're better off bringing something else.

One area where I feel they are particularly underused is in anti-capital ship warfare. Non-triage carriers do not receive a targeting buff, and their base scan resolution is poor enough that many feel it necessary to fit a sensor booster even in the absence of sensor damps.

Given the fact that these are essentially giant logistics ships and you've got a head start, scan resolution damping starts to look very attractive...
