It's not about stealing virtual money. Perhaps you need to read a little more, or learn to read. Let me break it down for you

Within EVE online, CCP are the ones in charge. if they say it's allowed then it's allowed within the realm of New Eden. Once you enter the public domain ( creating a website with intent to commit fraud) It becomes something different. If you mislead people and gather and maintain a database of personal information without the proper licensing and contractual agreements (notice how every website you join that collects personal information has you accept thier own version of agreements?) Then you're committing fraud.

It doesn't matter what gets stolen, it's called "Intent" (go look it up) The public domain is a different world, one called "the real world" with real consequences. tell you what, If you don't think this is real file a complaint with the FBI (if you're American) and they will tell you to go jump off a cliff (in laymen terms)

Your complaint cannot be about items in EVE (which CCP owns) it has to be about "The gathering of personal information with the intent to commit fraud using a public domain." (word it exactly like that) And then sit back and wait and see what they say.

and no, I didn't watch something on TV... I spent a couple years studying law. Hated it so tried something else.

Lying on a website is not fraud. You are wrong. Second, even if it was fraud, the FBI wouldn't care. They are busy. Third, even though it is not fraud, and even if it was the FBI wouldn't care (I mean you think terms and conditions violations are "fraud" are you serious?) the poor bastard who had to read or god forbid listen to your complaint would not tell you to jump off a cliff, because they are professionals. But once they hung up, you would be insane crank #57987 they had to deal with that week, and they would make fun of you behind your back to their co-workers.

I mean oh my goodness I can't even start with how completely wrong you are.

edit to add: I can't help myself. I'll break it down simple.

1) There is no fraud, because nothing happened. All space money and space information is owned by CCP per the EULA. Transfers between characters of space money or any space item are not really "transfers" at all, as CCP owned everything start to finish.

2) There is no personal information. Space characters are not personal. Anything CCP owned (i.e. everything in EVE) is not personal.

3) misrepresentation is not in itself illegal.

There isn't anything CLOSE to the basis for civil action, let alone criminal.

Seriously, as soon as you give your isk away there is risk you won't see any of it again.

People not anticipating that deserve this lesson.

People that did anticipate but took the risk anyway, they knew what they were getting into, it didn't pay off, ow boohoo for them.

How many times did you report Eddie Lamperts bot that went system to system spamming the stuff?

Why did CCP take no action against the EULA breaches?
We will never know.

How do you know whether it was bot or not?

I had 3 people, 1 in each time zone, monitor his activity round the clock for 7 days straight. The TQ server could have done this easily.

CCP don't have any interest in ending a ponzi that will MAKE COLUMN INCHES on the EVEISREAL website and OTHER WEBSITES.
Big scams = big advertising.

Any more pithy questions?

Why are people so excited about this? It was obvious that it was a scam, a well-engineered one. I "invested" 50 mil into it to see what happens, so I lost what, about 1 euro worth of internet money? Boo-hoo, one less candybar for me.

the Above quote is where a nerd admits he "knew" it was a scam, but "invested" anyway. Rolling Eyes

This is exactly the attitude these guys capitalized on. You & 3359 other butthurt suckers. Laughing

There are two questions that I ask myself when I see an entity like Phaser Inc.

1) If they are so successful, why do they need my money?

2) If they are so successful, why would they be willing to pay interest on my investment when they could instead just wait for their own business to give them the money they need?

There are times when you can answer the above two questions satisfactorily. But Phaser Inc. never answered these two, key questions.

That being said, it IS possible for the "customers" to make a lot of money off of ponzi schemes. The trick is that you have to get in early, and pull out before it's too late.

Because paying 5% interest on 10% profit that you make with somebody else's money is the way RL investing works (when you don't lose).

I put a few mill into phaser, think I made it back too. I kind of forgot about it until today actually. I wasn't surprised one bit. I was mostly curious how long it would take the ponzi scheme to collapse. As far as scams go, there was a decent amount of effort put in, but it wasn't really original. It pretty much just went on the same theme pickup artists use. You push through rejection and go for sheer volume. Thousands of people knew about phaser, so for minimal risk you could throw a few cents in for a peek at the end result. If you really want to outwit people, you play the game side by side with them. I once made 3 billion in 30 minutes without anyone ever knowing who it was who really orchestrated it. As far as quick thinking, opportunistic profit, with big consequences, that's your game. Number crunching schemes are for guys who can't look their target in the eye, feed them a convincing lie, and then sweep everything out from under them for being as weak as they are. Ponzi schemes are completely unoriginal. Phaser isn't anywhere near the league of the guiding hand social club.

Tactical espionage is so much more rewarding then big spreadsheet mustache-twirling villainy. I once used on the spot intel from a spy to maneuver a small combat fleet into position on a target coming to attack us in our home system. We sank two expensive battleships and went home with no losses. The spy wasn't even compromised.

Seriously? NOBODY learned from the EIB?
You were dumb enough to get scammed, and you did get scammed. That's all I see.
