This doesn't seem very relevant to eve online.

It's called general discussion you halfwit.

Look up what general means please, I'll even save you the trouble of searching for it.

Bought several plex, intend to buy at least one more when I get back on an EVE streak (probably in the winter).

Did I win yet?

Nope.

Must be something missing from this formula...

Oh yeah... you have to still blow up the other guy, and you can't do that without skills and knowledge. You know, the GAME PLAY part. If you're looking for that MMORPG 'Accounting Online' I don't think it's out yet.

Oh, I like those posts: "You can buy ISK, but you can't buy skill". You know what, it's bull****! Flying a spaceship in Eve is not exactly a thesis in quantum mechanics. The noob can buy the char, can buy the ISK and in a month you'll have your ass handed to you because the guy decided to throw $500 into Eve and you've just bought one small PLEX.

Really?

I actually bought several, and with them I could have bought any ship in the game. I had the bil+ at one time to buy a Nightmare, Mach, or Rattlesnake. Lets say I had bought $500 worth and had a hanger full of those, and I waited the 'in a month' to fully equip and use the ships and mods at full or near full (which is beyond exaggeration, drone interfacing alone is a month train, but I won't go down that road because it leads to nitpicking).

Now how do I win at EVE with my one ship? On a scale where it means so much that the game is 'Pay 2 Win'? What do I go win with that $500 set of loot pinatas?

I'll pay the $500 gladly if I can win at EVE. Please explain your position like the intelligent mature person you are.

You know quite well what I mean. Don't pretend that you really think that P2WIN is "win Eve" as you say it. P2WIN is paying RL money above usual subscription to gain an advantage. You get it either by directly selling PLEX or by multiboxing, and tbh, multiboxing is better as you at least have to play the game to get the edge, not just to sweep your credit card. NEX store is a logical extension of PLEX many ppl are up at arms against it because with PLEX you pay someone to grind for you, with NEX things can be spawned out of thin air in unlimited quantities, but that is just speculations as right NOW we don't have any game affecting items in NEX and CCP says it'll never happen. I don't believe a single word of what they say on this matter, but this is just my opinion. In any case P2WIN is already here.

Well ... I agree about the trolls but ... *shrug* GTC's & Plex were something that countered the buying of ISK. Game companies can't stop people from buying in game money but they can take over the business themselves. It's sort of like legalizing drugs. They take away the profits from the criminals and keep them for themselves. Of course it is the players who bought in game money with RL money that caused that - so blaming the players is accurate - though most don't do that.

Players buying in game currency, and it being wise for companies to start taking over the market for themselves, is definitely a reality, but even though I'm on your side of this and agree with cash shops etc, the P2Win conversation still needs to be had because when the company sells it they do something that's not done when third parties sell it. They now CONDONE the act of trading money for game currency.

The forum blowup was mostly useless, other than to show lots of people 'dont like it' which doesn't help since those same people surely didn't like it when 3rd parties sold currency...

But when you get a chance, you should always ask someone to articulate exactly what can be won with that currency to make it 'P2Win', because through this you get to game balance issues that really should always have been talked about in all games because of that third party currency market we all know exists.
When companies wrote it off as cheating, they had an excuse if someone could P2Win and players had the social position that they had cheated. Both of these go away at the same time when a company starts selling that currency themselves regardless of how smart that is from a business sense. A company needs to know what people can actually 'win' with buying currency and adjust their game, then communicate those adjustments so that players understand it's not cheating.

I think EVE is doing great... PLEX has been in a long time and the game is not 'ruined' at all. People like the OP leaving because they assume the same company that got that right are going to mess up the game now with the cash shop doesn't make any sense really...

And when you try to have the P2Win conversation with EVE players you get vague weak answers because they know EVE is won with blobs, small gang tactics with tackle, underhanded tactics like getting aggression and then bringing your friends, or picking fights you already know you can win.
