I, for one, find it hilarious that this happened. You can't expect to release a song that annoying and not get made fun of by people you go to school with... Also, the comment about walking down the street and hearing people start singing Friday in a nasally voice to make fun of her made me tilt my head a bit since she, herself, sang the entire song in a nasally, annoying voice.

But on a more serious note, after reading this blog, it seemed to make Rebecca Black look like a complete victim here. It makes me wonder about this bullying problem that is ongoing in the western world. I, for one, went through my primary education without any sort of severe harassment at all. While I'm certain there are bullies out there who simply pick on kids for the fun of it, it makes me wonder how many kids are bullied simply for doing socially unacceptable things, and whether or not the kids could have avoided the bullying in the first place.

I think Rebecca Black makes a great example of something she could've prevented being bullied over. That song was terrible, annoying, childish, and very, very public. She put it on Youtube, her fellow students found it, and made fun of her for it. Did she deserve it? Well, she certainly asked for it in some sense after posting such an annoying song. Should kids have made fun of her for it openly so much? I would think not. However, still, I think that she is also at fault simply for posting the song in the first place.

Also, lulz, people asking Rebecca what day it is all the time. I would be tempted to do it, if I met her and it was Friday...

You're a bloody idiot if you think someone who posts a silly sing on youtube deserves to be bullied for it, no one forced you or anyone else to watch it.

Selinate, you are now in 14th century china. You "invent" something and anger everyone.

As annoying as this person you speak of likely was, she didn't bring bullying upon herself. Neither did your generally frightened 14th century China version bring on the hate of thousands.

This post doesn't make sense? It's because I am trying to grapple two conflicting things here, the combination of which annoy me and warrant my nonsensical response:
1. You feel pity for this annoying singer.
2. You feel like one to lord over this annoying singer, tormenting her.

Thus, in an effort to come to the bottom of this, I ask one question. What the hell are you saying? Either you have an inferiority complex or you're trying to point out evidence of multiple existentialist themes in the modern world.

Now... yeah, like the above said, it's just jealousy. However, as you are exhibiting symptoms of this mysterious jealously thing...

This warrants a page-long analysis!

You have to keep in mind she still a 14 year old girl. Honestly I would not expect a teenager to always be aware of all consquences of their actions, that is part of being a teenager.

Pretty much this.
Most child stars are pulled from the public education system and schooled "at home", and honestly, it's probably better for them with the way our society is now a days.

But it's not just a song. It's an attempt to get rich quick by sapping the creativity of our youth with yet another manufactured teen pop star. Do you really think she would have been able to put that steaming pile together without the help/encouragement of some cursed husk of a human being that calls their self an "adult" thinking they were going to hit the jackpot with this amazingly untalented child?

Kids see things like this and think "So that's art, huh? Guess I don't have to try too hard. OMG mountain dew and funyuns! GLUG GLUG MUNCH MUNCH GLUG"

It's obvious to me that the only solution is to exterminate anyone who had a hand in this treachery.

i hated the video and the song.

the artist on the other hand? Meh, a bit young to have anything against.

I personally think if she learned to actually write music and could sing without autotune, she could do pretty well with it.

I loved Kanye West's first album, but some of his newer stuff is kind of bad. Do I hate him because I dislike his material and antics? No.

First of all.
Rebbecca Black did not do anything new on innovative.
She just did a tired old thing EXTREMELY BADLY.

It should be blatantly obvious to all involved that the final product was a total disaster and a hilariously bad one at that.

Second.
Why China?
The Late Yuan/Early Ming Dynasty weren't known for being against technological advancement in anyway way.
Heck the yuan dynasty saw china opening up to the west.
It was only the late Ming that spurned western technology and that was in the 17th century. And that was more anti-western ANYTHING.

Confused

Some people made fun of her song. They didn't steal her lunch money and then beat her up.

Wow, seems like people are oversensitive these days...

EDIT: And you guys should seriously get over yourselves. Just because someone is 13 or 14 doesn't mean that they don't have the mental faculties to understand that something they're doing is socially unacceptable. If a person was doing something as disgusting as, say, picking the calluses on their feet in the middle of class and leaving it on the floor, would they be made fun of? Of course, and rightly so, it's a disgusting habit that needs correction. As for this terrible song, it was annoying and pretty much universally disliked. She'll get picked on for it, but I don't think that she'll have this song hanging over her for the rest of her life. Again, no one beat her up in school or anything that serious.

I honestly think we've gotten too sensitive about our children in the western world. Make them all feel special, parents. Make them feel like they can be president if they want, parents. Most of all, don't ever discipline your children harshly, parents. It's a downward spiral that leads to kids who aren't as well disciplined or respectful.

And as for that response from Redflare, it is entirely possible to have both parties in a bad situation to be somewhat at fault, and as far as I know, I've never met Rebecca Black in real life, so I've never tormented her at all, nor would I feel the need to if I did meet her, unless of course asking what day it is on Friday is considered torment.

Also, I think it's a little silly to blame other kids for being jealous of her for that terrible song. They might be jealous if the girl was actually famous for being a good musician, but for being the laughing stock of everyone who's seen that video? Hardly...

People saying its the worst song ever are delusional. At the very worst, Friday is merely equal to anything the Black Eyed Peas have ever produced.

For example "My Humps" is what i'd call a contender for worst song ever, but the very same people who are ganging up on Rebecca are the ones who made that a platinum hit, and allowed it to win a grammy. Yes, a grammy. Where's your god now?

I wholeheartedly agree, just look at these forums, or the WoW forums or whatever else out there on the internet where asshats just troll because they can't get smacked.

My generation and those after mine have grown up spoiled and never taught that everyone should be treated as you would want to be treated...they just think about "me me me" and get offended at the slightest little thing that doesn't agree with their little self centered view of the world. I've gotten quite tired of this self entitled bull**** that has been breed into western culture, and the worst part of it is these people are now being elected to public office and really ****ing up the lives of everyone around them.

As far as I know, the death threats were all online, though, so I don't think that would have much to do with her situation at school.

And yes, I was going to use these forums and ask how quickly these others in this thread who are insulting me how quickly they would jump the gun and call someone a raving idiot (or worse) on these forums because they posted a bad ship fit on here or something of the sort....

I think you're just saying that because it's become the popular thing to say. It's not the worst song ever in any regard, although i understand why it might be fun to exaggerate how bad it is.

As another example, Selena Gomez keeps winning awards for her overproduced autotuned pop-bubblegum, sells lots of records, and absolutely died on stage at some recent awards show because she has little or no actual singing ability. Everyone still adores her.

The entire pop music industry is a wasteland of terrible songs and fake vocals. I agree Friday is a bad song, but you'll never convince me it's the only bad one, or the absolute worst. Every second top 40 song i hear is just as mind numbingly bad.

Actually, in all honesty, I'm not saying that because it's just popular to say. I've listened to many Black Eyed Peas songs and enjoyed them. That lady lumps song wasn't my favorite, but personally, I've never disliked it all that much. Again, it's just opinion based.

I'll agree that it's not the only bad one, but for me, out of every song I've ever heard (apart from some commercial jingles, maybe) it is by far the worst song I have ever heard. I am not exaggerating.

I got the idea from you acting like a child and repeatedly trying to act like your opinion is all that matters in what music is good or bad. This isn't even the point of the thread, so if you want to discuss it, go make your own. Hopefully in that one, you'll act less like one of those kids who think it's cool to hate certain kinds of music, and anyone who likes those kinds of music are losers...
