Also, a 70$ monocle says someone is hurting for profits.
I have no idea what anyone else in this thread has said. I only want to respond to this one person! (raaaaaaage!!!) When someone is starving on the street in desperate need of money for food, one does not try to sell their torn-up leather jacket for two hundred dollars!

They are profitable because they accumulate huge code assets.
As we like to believe that DUST will fail horribly part of these would be worth next to nothing. And if WoD fails the value of the whole "Carbon" development would be diminished (especially as CCP refuses to license this technology to other parties).
CCP does ofc operate on a going concern basis (as opposed to liquidation value) and assumes DUST will be successful.
If DUST (and later WoD) are successful there is no problem. |

I hope DUST514 is successful :) seems like an awesome concept. Too bad I don't have a console system. Maybe this could motivate me to buy one. |

Originally by: Spec Builder I'm not sure why the Eve community thinks CCP is not doing well financially but when I reviewed the leeked Balance Sheet and P+L they had a profit of about $10 million. You have to understand the goal of most small companies is to show as little as possible profit because corporations pay higher taxes than individuals, typically. I know this applies to the US for sure. As I recall they had approx $8 million in depreciation in 2010. This is a paper writeoff, ie. profit. I am at work now and I don't have the pdf version of the sheets here with me but I would hardly say they are hurting for money, new players maybe but not money. With all the fuss about that document I'm a bit surprised CCP CFO or of similar rank hasn't set the community straight.
It was never leaked Ltd companies need to post their accounts for all to see. It was public information. Next time before you start going on about how CCP does not have any financial problems, learn how companies work. |

Oh, and another comment on the whole economic state of CCP: I'm fairy convinced that the NeX is not about making money, or they would have put perishable goods in there at normal MT prices. Instead, it's a tool for them to reduce liability by removing PLEX (or, more specifically, the deferred service they represent) from the economy and thus remove service debt from their books.
You're mistaken by that assumption as PLEX are not treated as liabilites, as was figured out on FHC by digging throught the financial report. They count as revenue the moment they're sold. Long term susbscriptions OTOH are accounted as liabilities. |

The PLEX itself, yes, they still have to account for that service that will not be rendered in x number of weeks/months/year, and that service-yet-not-rendered is a debt they have to deal with. Whether or not it shows up in the financial statement or not, I don't know — if they don't, then yes, that makes the accounting look nicer and less problematic. It's still something they have to keep tally of since that service can be called in at any time and incur running costs that aren't balanced against a simultaneous input of cash, and they need to know how many of those are in the system to know how much is tied to these deferred services. |

Mark my words. Everything CCP is doing is to look good for a Sony buyout.
You can deny that all you want at this point but that's what I'm betting my imaginary money is on.
Just wait and see. In two years time you'll just laaaauuuggghhh. |

Quote: Me? I'll keep playing eve until it goes P2W or becomes unplayable. I wish CCP the best with Dust (won't play an FPS on a console) and WoD (not interested in Emo Teen Vampires Online). Hopefully, they'll heed some of those warning bells that are going off, though.
You entire post was brilliant except for the mild slander at the end, WoD will attract many middle age female gamers. They are by far the biggest gaming demographic, but the smallest MMO demographic. |

Corporate accounts are drying up for EVE. If you ever thought that EVE has introduced half-assed expansions before, you have just received the final half-assed expansion. People wonder why the actual good developers have left, as well as the old playerbase. Doors are going to be shut to the remaining metrosexual playerbase that still logs in. Done. |

I doubt ccp is doing badly, a few years back they merged with a large table top role playing coming named White wolf. From that White wolf has worked on an eve table type games, and CCP is creating a World of Darkness MMO. Which will reach a lot different costumer base. Over all I think they are doing pretty well for them selves.

I wish them luck and hope they don't get ganked on any shortcuts :) And i hope EVE doesn't hold as much bad will towards us as many do to them. THat nerf bats pretty wicked. |
