I am back and ready to jump back in to this. To sum it up, I left the job I was at and so had to gve back my laptop and since then never got round to getting a new computer....until now.

I have forgotten so much about this game.
My first question is regarding races, what are the differences between races? As we can all train the same skills, what difference does a race make. I was always Gallente as I loved using drones. But what's stopping me starting as Minimatar and doing the same thing. What are the weaknesses, what are the strengths?

I'm sure I'm missing something and it will all come flooding back.

Secondly, what's the deal with station walking? When i left it was on the cards to come and we were waiting for it. Sure, it's fun....for about 5 minutes and then I stopped walking to that 1 room. The only cool bit is being able to see your spaceship in the dock. I must admit though, I prefer the spinning ship.

Thanks guys!

Florin

A public beta of sorts.

Race only really decideds your rookie ship, where on the map your character is born, and your characters ethnicity so fell free to chose the one you like the looks of best.

As for the station walking bit that's captains quarters, its realy just a beta test platform for incarna in which the wikll open up more areas of the station where players can interact. This new content will also tie in with dust 514, an upcoming ps3 title where players fight as mercs hired by eve players to fight over planetary assets. As it stands dust could be incredibly awsome, or die horribly in a fire its just too hard to say right now.

Ok, thanks guys. I thought there was more to it but I must be thinking of something else.

Another question, what is the difference with lasers and hybrid turrets. With hybrid turrets you have to buy ammo, whereas lasers you don't. So there must be some tradeoff wth the lasers otherwise what would be the point of ever buying hybrids when you can save a fortune on ammo?

And lasers can chabge ammo instantly rather then wait 10 seconds like all other weapons which is why I prefer lasers on my bs. However a lot of my smaller ships are blaster based as you cant beat blaster dps if you can manage to keep a close range to your target. Most important thing to keep in mind is your ship bonuse and to use weapons that match them

The WAS more to it. A while ago they changed the character creation. It used to be that your race/bloodline/training determined the set of skills that you began the game with, to give you head start on things you were interested in. They then changed it to be that you have some 50k starting points and you trained twice as fast until you hit 1mil sp or so. They recently changed that again with the removal of learning skills.

As to your second question, there is quite a difference. Lasers don't have to reload, and changing ammo is as quick as shutting your guns down and clicking. Lasers, like hybrids, have a specific damage type. Lasers is EM and therm, while hybrids are kin and therm. Most things beyond frigs omni-tank, so that is usually not a huge point for people. PVP wise, lasers use pulse while hybrids use blasters. Basters have large dps, but terrible tracking and range. Since the nano-nerf they have become hard to use (not impossible but hard, especially solo). Pulses have much better range. Lasers also use more cap than hybrids.

Last note, laser crystals do burn out (T2), but it takes forever and you see it coming.

Welcome back!

Ah yes I remember them removing the learning skills and I had a ton of SP to reallocate.
It's all starting to come flooding back. I've only been away a few months but amazing how quickly I forget stuff.
