pros:
- OMFG THE DEPTH
- Source engine, so it can run on many old computers \o/
- coop game, and even local coop game modes
- DEPTH!
- bit of a "WH40k meets cyberpunk" thing, and we can't never have too much cyberpunk games.
- good mixture of RPG and FPS
- DID I SAID ALREADY HOW DEEP IS THIS GAME?
- indy game with a nice price tag!

cons:
- bugs, some of them gamebreaking, altho the 10-member developer team is working on releasing a patch.
- Source engine can be considered dated too
- feels like a rushed release because of a similar AAA game (Deus Ex: HR)

it's a very promissing game tho, needs some fixing here and there, but a true diamond in rough.

My depth is immaterial to this conversation.

I will try the game though.

the max amount i will pay for an indie title is 15 dollars full price, and i expect it to be on sale for 10. this game is neither of those prices.

imho, it is well deserved the price, even if it's to support the studio.

Then they should set up a charity fund. I'd rather buy something when it's polished. vOv

Mad Damn your intolerable logic!

But in all fairness, i'm comfortable with the level of fail EVE has to offer. If an indy team had been working on their game for almost a decade i'd probably donate to their cause too.

So, Grimpak. It's good then?

Sell it to me in a shortish paragraph, no more than 4000 words [Razz]

Yes, I want to know that myself, some friends and I were looking at this game earlier...
Though I'd like a 3 page essay discussing the good and bad points of E.Y.E. and why it was ultimately worth buying. Double spacing is ok, but I expect 12 point font! ;)

well, in terms of how good the game can be, you can compare it to VtM: Bloodlines: it shows promise, the background story is awesome (they actually built a language for the game), scenery art is quite good, for a Source game. The negative parts are sorta equal to VtM too, where there is some poor technical execution. However it is to be expected since this game was made by a 10-man developer team.
The RPG side of it is quite open-ended, since each "class", (that range from melee user that apexes when you unlock the warhammer aptly called "Arrancador de trippas", to hacker, to a class akin to "mage") is based around a set of attributes you can increase when you level up. In said classes, there is also the option of actually going "balanced". Also, there is the fact that this game actually has a Sanity stat that when drops you can be afflicted to a number of negative conditions that goes from hearing voices to paralizing terror, including hallucinations and paranoia (paranoia is funny because your character can shoot at something randomly, even if you still control him).

there is a tech tree to research that unlocks powers, increased stats and weapons, and the hacking (that can hack anything from terminals to other npc's) is actually good. You can do anything with it, from possession to simple spying.

game world is massive and extremely open-ended, so the replayability value is there.

of course I could have advanced further in the game and actually check this out if it didn't crashed so often because of memory leak bugs. Devs have been working hard tho, so a patch for it is expected to arrive still this week.

I like what I'm hearing there, other than the memory leak issues. If they fix that, I think I'll buy this. Thank you.

as some reviewers said, it's a game that only indies can make because it crams so many things in one package that it can become a risky endeavour.

however it does feel a bit rushed, mostly because Deus Ex: HR, which is the only game that can draw comparisons from, one being an dystopian cyberpunk indie game with some WH40k mixed up, the other being an AAA cyberpunk game.

ah yes totally forgot an interesting tactical detail about this game.

when you reload your weapons, you throw away the clip, even if it has bullets in it.

Well, I have to admit I was underwhelmed by Deus Ex 2, so I'd just as soon give these guys a chance over Deus Ex 3. I have no problems with indy games and I don't think graphics make or break a game. I tested games for a couple years; as long as there aren't major stability/compatability issues or terrible interfaces I'm generally fairly tolerant so long as the game is good.

That is interesting, I have wondered why more games don't do this... I feel certain I played one once that did.
Is ammo a real concern in E.Y.E.?

you have limited inventory slots, plus the more you carry, the slower you get. Atm my preferred config is dual pistols + ammo and sniper rifle + ammo.

the pistols have both semi and full auto firing modes, each carries a 20-round clip. I can assure you that you burn through quite the ammo in full-auto, but enemies drop quite the ammount of ammo too, plus each clip on inventory = 3 full clips.

i remember in bf2 when you reloaded you threw away the ammo in the clip, never remember being excited about it or mentioning it as a selling point.

You had me at bloodlines.

Playing games coop with my adhd friends usually means skipping past all the good storyline moments to grind enemies though, I hope it holds up well playing alone.

Edit: Have played it for a bit now. Aside from not really understanding much and getting stuck due to bugs, it seems cool. Environment seems a bit empty sadly and I'm not a big fan of the Source engine either, movement is a bit akward.
It seems like the game that will grow on me though and I'll probably get used to interface and the game in general soon enough.

I'm not overwhelmed in short.

devteam posted on the steam forums that they are overworked because of the bugs, so expect some delays on that.

I do agree that it's a bit empty, but I guess it's the limitations of the Source engine that is the culprit here.
