There are a lot of colloquialisms in EVE, which can make it challenging for a newb to understand what people are talking about. Most of the time I'm able to track down some sort of explanation, but there is one term that keeps popping up that I haven't been able to figure out - blue (as a noun).

I've managed to put together that it has *something* to do with corps or alliances, but no more than that. I've seen talk of resetting blues and corporations saying that they have them. Can someone clear this up for me?

When you set someone to "positive" or "excellent" standing he gets a bright or deep blue icon respectively (by default).

So blues are members of corporations or alliances allied to yours.

Same thing with "reds" which means the alliance in question has "horrible" standing.

WTs (or flashies) is the expression for people who are in official CONCORD war with you (meaning you get to shoot them in highsec).

So advertising that you "have" blues basically says that you have alliances and/or large numbers, then? And resetting blues is dissolving an alliance?

No. It means your alliance has other alliances as friendlies. A group of alliances where all are blue to each others is called a power block. Power blocks usually last only as long as there is a common enemy, exceptions are known (NC, for example).

Dissolving blues (actual terms used being "resetting") means you remove their good status, and skirmish can begin.
