Except that unlike last millennium's video monitors, LCD/OLE/Retina displays have a native resolution that greatly degrades unless you shrink by a power of two.

Except font sizes should not be affected by device resolution. A 12 point font should be about a sixth of an inch high regardless of whether you print it on a 300, 600, or 1200 dots-per-inch printer. Nor should they be affected by monitor resolution - the font size is 12 points, not 12 pixels. I hope the technology and my budget work so my next ( or the one after that) display is a Retina Display ( about 336 pixels per inch or about 900% more pixels in a square inch than my current display. ) I don't expect my 12 point font to be a third the height on a better display, just that it uses 9 times as many pixels to form each letter.
