I was running missions in .7 space with 2 other corp mates. The mission we were on took us through a jump gate into a dead space area. We had just finished destroying the last NPC when a Vengeance jumped in on us. After a few moments she went red, locked me, and was quickly joined by her friends. My two corp mates got out, but I was destroyed. She suffered no sec status loss, and the police never showed to help. As far as we can tell, no one did anything to incur any kill rights (canisters, wrecks etc) nor has her corp declared war on our corp.

How is this possible?

Not speculating on what went wrong ... just making note of the meaning of the term "kill rights".

In EVE - when a player blows up your ship - if you don't shoot back - you have kill rights against them for 30 days. Meaning - that you can attack them anywhere without fear of Concord. But you can only do that one time.

Thus, someone comes along in a Vengeance and blows you up. If you ever catch them in an industrial you can freely gank them one time. Of course if you catch then in their Vengeance you can attack them too ... you just may have more trouble killing them than if they were in an industrial.

Any time you get blown up and don't know why - one of the first things to check is the Reset tab in your Esc menu. Look at the things that you can "reset". If you've turned off something that would have given you a warning - this is where you can turn it back on - but the mere presence of that reset button - indicates that this warning had somehow gotten turned off.

Figured out what happened. She attacked one of our wrecks. One of our newer player corp mates was jumpy and got excited in coms the moment she went red. I hadn't noticed her before this, heard the sudden panic, assumed she was firing on my fleet, and ordered the fleet to open fire on her, thinking Concord was on its way to wreck her face in a hurry. What happened instead was we idiotically just flagged ourselves to her and her fleet waiting on the other side of a gate. Almost instantly I realized something wasn't right, ordered my two corp mates to warp out before anyone else got tackled.

I'm not pro, but I'm not exactly new. Never seen a pirate op pull that trick before, and feel dumb for falling for it. Oh well, fool me once yada yada yada
