So predictable...
A little bit of research shows that the individual requesting the ban and/or his followers are not of sound mind.

I am seriously gobsmacked.

Not by the standard response from people who have never seen or played an actual videogame in their lives, but by the comments from actual politicians in a country that used to try hard to censor everything and anything to do with games (read the article!).

Seems my faith in the world has been restored... If ever so little.

This sure stirs up a lot of fond memories of our old favorite villain: Jack Thompson. The famous activist who is against sexuality and violence of any form in video games.

Jack Thompson is well known especially in cases like:

When The Sims player base discovered a third-party mod that allows them to remove the "blur" from the private parts of the characters as they showered (note: no boobs or genitals were ever modeled, let alone rendered, in the first place).

When the Half-Life: 2 player base discovered a third party mod that was called "School Shootout" that was basically a game-like version of the Columbine Massacre.

GTA. What can I say? I saw this coming, and not surprisingly no one cared.

Fortunately, very little to almost no one supported poor old Jack because everyone knows that the game companies were never responsible for what "irresponsible" third party developers put out as mods for the company's games (let alone control what the players do with the mods). Not only that, Jack failed to realize that it's not the company's job to babysit your kids on what games are safe for their age group. That job belongs to the parents.

Dear Jack Thompson,

Get the **** out of the gaming industry.

Right MW2 multiplayer is an accurate simulator Rolling Eyes. You would think that if he would have thought a video game was a good simulator he would have used something like armed assault. But last time i checked what happened on the island he didnt after the first few people he murdered call in a predator strike, followed by an attack helicopter and finished by a tactical nuke.

I have been meaning to mention this for a while now and never really got the chance, there's this awful ad (which does actually pop up for everything, not just the Oslo related massacre) on yahoo.

It is basically 2 guys playing a fighting game, all you hear is 'ready' on the game getting said several times then one of the guys going to the other one "im here for you" or some ****.

Anyway the ad is brief and it is a mental health advert, I was pretty ****ed at the ad since it made it look like 'gamers' were all psycho, fortunately their website didnt actually say anything about games.

Also funfact, back in my WoW days when I would prefer to sit in play WoW, get a little high than go out and get ****ed people actually were 'so shocked' at my behaviour change that they assumed I was crazy or on the verge of a breakdown.

Ignoring TV and refusing to binge drink was considered odd, another side effect that people 'didnt' get was the fact that I was paying more attention on my studies than on partying, this was 'also' bad.

Getting top grades and doing everything by the book eventually got me compliments but there was a time people thought my mind was getting corrupted from games XD

Like I said then, "I would rather sit in and play games than go out and get aimlessly drunk", ironically I dont actually do either

It's everywhere.

I was at a convention where fighting the forced implementation of national healthcare became a party plank (part of a platform - American political boring crap. I don't agree with national healthcare for numerous economic and constitutional reasons, but the platform made a comment about "being told how to take care of oneself".

Funny, because right after that came a vote for support of medical pot. A cancer survivor made a good speech. A friend of mine managed to get a vote in on it.

It was voted down.... hey wait a minute only 15 minutes earlier they all wanted to make their own medical choices?

I took a picture of the crowd and studied it later. All gray heads, if hair at all. These were the people raised on fearing "reefer madness".

Of course the same people who are all about a "woman's right to choose" when it's time to abort suddenly reverse course when she wants to protect herself with a gun. But then, they say we need Roe vs Wade because "without it, some states will make abortion illegal, and others not, so women who cross the state lines will be arrested when they get home".

Gee, that's what owning a gun in the US is like, even with an actual constitutional amendment in place? Well gollllllleeee! If we are supposed to abort the babies across the board with one law to protect "right to choose", when there is already a right to be armed, yet you can still go to prison for years without breaking a law - and not even an actual victim resulting from it.

So yes, hyprocritical "right" as you put it, but don't stop there. People like you vote in the left thinking everything is all good after that. So how's all that hope and change working out for you?

Both sides lie. Liberals don't liberate. Conservatives don't conserve. Wake up.

Pretty good, thanks for asking. In the last two centuries liberal policies have abolished slavery from my country, eradicated polio, smallpox and we're working on many others, ended on man's effort to 'clean' Aryan blood by killing millions of Jews a few hundred miles from me, ended woman suffrage and established a sort of 'Constitution of Human Life' with the ratification of the Human Rights Act.

Imagine how we would have progressed if liberals of their day decided to just maintain the status quo. Evil ****ing liberals, forcing progress on people.

If you want to find out what would happen if we, as a species, were to adopt conservative policies i recommend that you Google "dark ages".

Read my last line again. You do not understand.

What we call liberal now, is that liberating? What we call conservative, has it spared anything from the state?

Conservatives claim to be "conserving" what once was the ideals during a time period of which said ideals were in fact considered liberal.

Quote:
In the last two centuries liberal policies have abolished slavery from my country

If you refer to the United States, be advised that though they tried, the founders could not eliminate it and owned slaves themselves. Meanwhile, the Great Emancipator, Abraham Lincoln, did everything George Bush (another "conservative") did in 2001.
But while there were slaves back in the days of yore, those who were not slaves owned the means of their own production. So while some did not own their labor, most owned their production.
So how's the world now that few own their own means of production, that we replaced black slavery with everybody slavery? Has the world improved now that people have to carry out state or corporate policies they don't agree with or else lose their jobs?

Quote:
eradicated polio, smallpox and we're working on many others

Where does fighting disease come in with a political idealogy? Would you say that telling people to have a lot of children is a "pro life" policy too, but wanting people to die from disease is perhaps an ideal of stuffy rich conservative types? But the latter likes cannon fodder, so fighing disease could just as well be a conservative goal but hey, liberalism and democracy has done nothing to stop two great wars in one century. So we traded natural causes for war.

Notably:
Quote:
we're working on many others

What do you mean "we"? So you have a personal identity investment in a political ideal? Is that why you cannot take criticism of it? You take credit for what "we" did but you take the critique personally?

Quote:
ended on man's effort to 'clean' Aryan blood by killing millions of Jews a few hundred miles from me

So you are not from the US. Chances are you are on that continent where the fat cats had their two wars - a continent of cannon fodder killing each other off while certain people got rich selling the ammo. So tell me, they stopped the Aryans but look at who bankrolled the other guys: Stalin and company. What about their body count? By the way, the "good guys" called Stalin an ally.

Quote:

We are already in a dark ages, because people like yourself will stick to these labels and follow others who, knowing what you fancy yourself as, corrupt the idealogy. This is why what we call liberal in some countries is conservative in others, and vice versa. In the USA, the liberals call their democrat party the "party of Jefferson" because in his time he was considered a liberal. Yet conservatives falsely claim to support the ideals of the founders (when in fact the only founder they appear to really support is Hamilton who wanted centralized banking) but that's supposed to be "liberal".

Break out of the false paradigms. Both "sides" are controlled and the end result is what? Look around you.

There's just so much stupid in your last post that i'm going to have to number by your moments of idiocy them because of the character limit.

1. I don't like liberal or conservative as descriptions either but they're the most popular terms for progressives and reactionaries so i'd fair enough to use them. But if you want to continue arguing semantics to deflect from your other shortcomings then i suppose that's fine too.

2. I referred to the UK, not the US so that was a waste of a sperg. That said, of course slaves were freed in the last 200 years, are you saying they weren't?

3. You honestly don't think government funding was used on research into vaccinations?

4. More semantics. "We" as in, "mankind".

5. "So you are not from the US. Chances are you are on that continent where the fat cats had their two wars - a continent of cannon fodder killing each other off while certain people got rich selling the ammo. So tell me, they stopped the Aryans but look at who bankrolled the other guys: Stalin and company. What about their body count? By the way, the "good guys" called Stalin an ally."

I simply quoted this because it's craziness/dumbness just speaks for itself.

Hey I have made my points so you can believe what you want.

What I believe in works every time it is tried - a policy of freedom and nonaggression with a right to self defense when needed. Actually worked for it, nearly died once for it too.
Your progressive ideals failed, much of it forwarded by people hiding behind curtains in voting booths, and enforced at gunpoint. Maybe someone will give you a uniform and a rifle someday and say "YOU want it this way, YOU do it yourself!". The governments who pay the people wearing the uniforms now are going broke, so don't think it's not possible.

THEN we will see what you believe in.

For now, I am done with you, because real freedom is not needing permission or acceptance from the likes of you.

Pretty much it doesnt surprise me. it seems reasoning goes like this

a) terrible thing happens
b) take list of things you personally dislike or ate
c) find whichever things from "b" that you can, that match the perpetrator of "a"
d) blame "B" for the perpetrator of "A"

so in short- if you dont like video games, well- did whats his name claim to play video games? if yes- than ah-ha, you have your prove.

if you dont like conservitive politics, did perp claim conservitive? then ah-ha, you have your proof.

if you dont like democrats- did he claim to be liberal? if so- then ah-ha, you have your proof.

There is only one person i blame. I blame the guy who did it, and him alone period. anyone can take any veiw, and twist it to justify whatever the hell they want to. but at the end of the day, ONLY he is to blame, PERIOD.
