I guess it's all personal taste, but at the moment i don't really fell the design of the NeX cloth is worth spending time or money on buying, which maybe is because i don't know much about the eve back story.

The cloth you can buy look like work cloth, which for me seems very odd when i have the isk to buy expensive spaceships. For me it would make a lot more sense if you could but cloth that display a lot more prestige. Sure the price show i got a lot of isk, but i don't fell the cloth do the same. I would expect that the cloth was much more like the real world uniforms or business suits what you normally would give the image of a person with power.

As it is now the cloth compared to the spaceships we fly, to me, makes it feel like you are driving a Ferrari wearing working class cloth.

Hi Rhasphody,

I am the producer responsible for the Virtual Goods business at CCP. Obviously we are very rough around the edges on multiple fronts with our offerings in the NeX. So I very much agree with your comments.

Color, styles and themes, types of items, bundling capability, getting our pricing spectrum established, Male vs Female appeal, how we describe the goods/items, character creator, how we communicate with the player base, ease of use, fulfilling fantasy, UI / Shopping experience, payment options, satisfying the FiS crowd, growing Incarna adoption, technical limitations with the game engine, even our analytics capability needs a lot of work.

Its going to take some time, we are watching and listening, and I would like to think we will get really good at this one day.

It is our intent to offer things on the cheaper side as well other price ranges. First batches of items did not hit a wide spectrum, nor did it offer enough variation in look or color. The current items are all part of a military theme, color variation on this these will start to show up after the summer but we also have other themes in various phases of development and want to get them out as quickly as we can.

I would love to see examples of what you would like to see, I can take them to our fashion artists and creative directors, push some buttons. I also want to set up voting and an idea funnel for players. Hear other perspectives based and consider the results as part of our decision making process.

Question for you and other players, we see a lot of popularity with the skirt and the knee-high boots. Why do you think this is? What do you feel about showing more skin with our clothing offerings?

When you think about lower price points, what price ranges would work better for you? Consider a few points though... clothing is not destructible, players usually focus their game play on a primary character, volume wise we have a modest player base (we don't have 10's of Millions of players) and only a % of people that will buy. Beyond how you look, do you also value originality, rarity, design, lore, how something would sound and animate in how you view price?

FiS players, don't worry we are think about you too. Just need more time. Very Happy

Thanks

CCP Apollo

Hi Apollo, nice of you to drop by and comment.

I do have one question which has been absolutely baffling me for a month now. The players have, over the recent months made several extremely popular suggestions for items that they would willingly - even joyfully - pay a little extra for. I'm talking here of things like being able to buy a corp / alliance logo that appears on all member's ships, reskinnable ships, engine trails, and so on. If these were to appear for reasonable prices, they would be extremely popular.

I'm absolutely certain that The Initiative would pay for a time limited "license" to have the alliance logo appear on all our ships, and I'd be shocked if almost every other alliance didn't feel the same way. If it cost the equivalent of 5 or 6 or even 10 PLEX every month, we'd gladly pay that, and many dozens of other alliances would do the same.

Similarly, I think a really significant number of the playerbase would literally fight for the chance to burn a PLEX in order to get their engine trails back (provided that other players could see it of course!)

And I and many like me would cheerfully pay a few AUR for a CONCORD License to reskin my Zealot or my Scimitar or whatever and purchase from another player (I'm not very good with creative design) a nice new paint job for my frankly rather rusty Minmatar Logistic ship, even if that paintjob would be lost when it inevitably succumbs

But instead, you have given us some rather ordinary looking clothes which I dont recall anyone ever asking for. I appreciate that you want to support the avatar-based aspect of the game, but it does seem odd that you have left so much money on the table, so to speak.

CCP Soundwave said in last nights Eve Radio interview that engine trails are coming back, they tried to add them in the last patch, but the new turrets ended up taking more time then expected, and the engine trails didn't make it in to the patch. What i understood from the interview was that we should get the engine trails back very soon.

No, but he didn't indicate that it was a possibility what we would get it through the NeX store. It seemed like it was removed because of technical reasons with the client or bandwidth, and it was now impossible to add it to the game again.

Caldari: Military clothing, corporate suits etc
Amarr: Gold ornaments, ceremonial clothing, a khumak maybe??
Gallente: Cyberpunk, vinyl, plastic, "liberal" clothing
Minmatar: Tribal cloting, tribal accessories etc

ATM the NeX store products are completely disasocciated with the EVE universe. WTF is a monocle, space rectum??, doesnt even suit the EVE theme at all, neither do any of the clothing currently available.

Instead of the monocle u could have a 'EGONICS' headset, seriously, all the background stories have enough material for healthy brainstorming, yet CCP came up with "space rectum".

You already lost alot of customer loyality (including mine) with MT stuff, so, CCP, if you gonna put efford into this then either do it properly or dont bother at all.

Consider a few points though... clothing is not destructible

here's your problem.
market can't work well with immortal clothes.
better to sell clothes 10x cheaper, and that people need to buy new one sometimes.
if it's cheap people won't care much losing them on combat. sure they will be a bit more careful, but you'll see so more volume, that you'll like the result.
remember that what you care are price * quantities, not only price.
you said you were listening right ? then what about giving a try about what we are all saying since a while ?
put a cheap nice clothe on the store, and look at stats numbers. you won't regret it.
hint : cheap means cheaper than all your current items.

If people don't care if they loose their items in combat, what is the point of making them destructible?

This issue have been addressed several times, CCP Soundwave mentioned again last night in the interview, the idea with the vanity items is not to punish players who forget to take them off when they engage in pvp. It's something you use then you are at stations not when you are in your ship, they don't give any bonus while fighting, so it don't matter if they are destroyed, as CCP soundwave said, "we are not trying to punish the guy who comes home drunk and forgot to take off his cloths before he undocked"

This.

@Mysa
Browns, greys, and blacks... this trend came along because of the Russians in WWI who decided they would rather blend in with the terrain than be a walking target in brightly colored dress. That and with the advent of trench warfare, being a brightly glowing target moving across No Man's Land was about the best thing you could do to guarantee immediate death.

Be thankful that they are not releasing French military apparel circa 1900s, or we'd all be wearing navy blue and bright red as far as the eye can see.

People love to make historical comparisons without actual historical knowledge, and it sort of perturbs me when history is forgotten, or even misappropriated.

I've seen Apollo mention lore. Well, according to lore, ten million ISK is enough for a family to live large for a lifetime without having to work.

So you obvioulsy need a greater range of "cheap" itens available. I do not think that the average rich person (person, not capsuleer) on EVE's universe would spend enough money to buy a navy-grade fighter carrier on a piece of shoewear.

It is like saying that Sharon Stone would pay over US$5.000.000.000,00 (enough to build this for a pair of boots. And thats your mid-range.. lets not talk about the top tier.

You people need to remember the capsuleers are but a small fraction of the population on EVE's universe. So your "low tier" of clothes should reflect that. "Low tier" clothes should be clothing that was designed by, and for ordinary rich people. And it should look good too.

People are not buying monocles because they look good (they do not). They are buying it because you wanted it to be a status symbol. So a proper "rich" capsuleer would never, ever use lowly "normal people" clothing. They would be willing to spend US$5.000.000.000,00 on a pair of boots simply because they know that they would be the only ones willing to do so.

How do I want to dress my characters?

Main: a business suit (current costume isn't bad)
Hauler alt: Hawaiian shirt, cargo pants
PI/Research alt: Catholic schoolgirl with F-me pumps

What am I willing to pay?

I want to see items in the 250-500 AUR range; the most I'm willing to go is 750 AUR for a exceptional piece. And nothing currently in the NeX is what I would consider exceptional.

I just want to say that I think you've hit the nail on the head, and while I disagree with the job you've been assigned to do, I think you're demonstrating a reasonable quantum of intelligence in going about getting it done.

If by only a %, you mean, low-to-mid single digits at best, I think you're spot on. Consider the player population, the fact that we all have 2-3 accounts and we're not buying clothes for our cyno alts, and I think you're doing the right math.

The inexorable conclusion, though, is that vanity MTs will only raise the revenue of a subscription game by a few % at the absolute most. Did you see the presentation about Battlefield Heroes where they discussed how, in a F2P game, only 2% of players bought any vanity-only items? What if this is the right metric for EVE? What does that say about the development resources invested into outfits and a NEX store that has already cost you 10% of your subscriptions?

You can't fix the POS interface because all of your artists are working on outfits. Look, I think at $15 a month, I am (more than) paying for all of the content you create with that money. Let's not talk about vampires and PS3 games. I think given the math that you're doing (a few % of players buy anything at all) you have to ask -- does it make sense to have a nex store at all? With 125-150k human players owning 325-350k accounts, generously speculate that 5% of them buy 1 plex worth of indestructible items per year. That's like getting 7,500 extra subscriptions for one month (roughly) or 600 annual subscriptions.

Is that a good reason to reskin one ship a year, to not update POSes because all of your artists are working on outfits?

Your bosses need to do the math. I hope you have lots of transferable business skills, and that your bosses listen to you.

1) what does FiS mean?

2)A preview window would be nice so we can see what the clothes would look like on our characters before we buy them. We all have different skin tones and hair colours.

3)A filter between jewlery, mens and womens clothes would be nice.

4)You need ideas on clothes ? Look in any fashion mag or catalouge. It doesn't have to be all spacy.

At the moment the clothes are very dark, grey or black. Very dull in fact.

Hi Apollo

Personaly id love to see some of the old costumes back, or variations of them, the race specific costumes from our old chars where interesting and more geared towards sci-fi, even if some of them where slightly over the top lol.

Id also love to see the player determin the colour of there clothing once they buy them, (I.E) I buy a shirt or dress from the NEX store and then i decide what colour i want from a colour wheel just like the colour option we have for hair, (on a side note, can you please ask someone who deals with colour options to sort out the lack of black hair for the female Caldari Deteis, would be much appriciated)

On the issue of skirts and high heeled boots being popular, ok i for one want some more skin on show LOL!, the reason these are more popular is the fact that most female char's are created by men, and study's show that men find the female avi more apealing to watch and play, which is the reason games such as Tomb Raider became so popular, so for me i defo want to see more emmmmm, "hoochy" (for the lack of a better word) clothing made LOL!

Ok i did these pics a few years ago but you get the idea LOLz!
