The longtime forum poster and well known pvper Minigin has unfortunately taken his own life as of approximately an hour prior to this post.
Minigin was undeniably loved by the EVE community as a whole, and his presence on these forums was a defining aspect of EVE. To those who found themselves on the receiving end of his guns, he was a worthy and honourable foe. To those who he considered his friends, he was a loyal companion. Minigin's presence on Teamspeak was something to be longed for, and any time he joined, he was met with cheer.
Minigin will be sorely missed.

I don't thoroughly approve of doing things like this. Because it often times leads to trolling and talking ill of the dead. People don't seem to correlate the magnitude of death. I don't care to see proof that he is actually deceased. Honestly I didn't know him and have nothing good or bad to say. But for all those about to comment. Please stop for a moment and consider what you are saying. An issue like this is outside of the game world. |

I would buy a NeX shirt should CCP wish to send proceeds to family for boxing, burning, and burying our departed pilot.
TBH sucks to hear it, hope the best for the family. |

This message has been brought to you by Moar Tears. I actually was in a Battle with him yesterday on WOT.
As for the "undeniably loved...." I'm pretty sure we are remembering two different Minigins. He did bring discussion to the game - but I doubt he was widely loved for it.
As for suicide, I've heard it's painless. |

Edited by: Nth Ares on 21/07/2011 01:31:49Why are you posting this here? You'll just get insults and trolling. This could be a great subject for you to use on the "EVE is Real" marketing site. You could make your friend a video tribute and enter it in the contest. http://www.eveisreal.net/This way you can give people a better picture of who he was, both in real life and in the EVE community. |

Which is more painful to the family? Dealing with the aftermath of a suicide; or putting the effort into giving a loved one something to live for in the first place? People love to say "nobody else can make you happy, you have to make yourself happy" and then go on to talk about how painful it is when that person commits suicide.
I completely respect Minigin's choice, and it is not my place to make that choice for him. As for offering condolences to his family? I don't offer empty platitudes and do not have any information that would lead me to believe that they would deserve the kind words. |

as someone who's battled depression. even when people try to make you happy, cheer you up, or even ask what's wrong; you tend to push them away I know I thought about it a lot during my 1st divorce, in 04, but suicide is a permanent solution to a (usually) temporary problem life is worth living, even when we think it's not... if I had chosen the easy way out, I would have never seen my oldest graduate high school, my youngest would never have been born... those are moments worth choosing to continue on so my condolences do go out to the family |

Minigin was someone I knew very well both on and off the internet and sadly I can confirm that not only is Otocinclus not one of his alts (he is in fact a former corpmate) but also he did tragically take his own life earlier today.
Normally I'm not a fan of these threads as they invite trolls and *******s to wander in and **** on what is a very serious matter to friends and families. It also invites people to lie about what is a very serious subject in the future. In this case however Minigin was not only a close personal friend of mine but also a well known forum personality and while not everybody agreed with him about the state of eve you would be hard pressed to find anyone who truly hasn't heard of him.
I hope that those who did know him can temporarily put aside their internet differences and come together to at least think fondly of someone who deeply cared about this game, even if not everybody agreed with his viewpoint. His family is not in the best shape at the moment and those of us who knew him well are all in a bit of shock. He truly will be missed. |
