After PvPing in RvB since 2009, and being a fan of roleplay, I had thought there might be a way to mix both together.

Would anyone be interested in forming a two corp relationship, similar to Red Vs Blue, but with a roleplay background?

It is very plausible and could make for a very interesting story. Whether it be two corps that directly represent one of the four empires or a more fringe element.

Discuss.

Well I for one would be very interested. Perhaps not in forming one myself - you don't want me leading anything, trust me - but that's exactly the sort of setup I've always wanted to see.

True, but his target audience is in this forum - Most probably wouldn't even have known it existed had he made it there

I apologize for putting this in the wrong forum.

I could repost this in an IC format if necessary. I really want to find someone to lead the separate faction.

You mean a never ending battle between two opposing sides, steeped in idiology etc???

Pretty sure that is called Faction Warfare and exist currently - Amarr vs Minnies / Caldari vs Gallente

Well obviously, but in a more controlled environment. The war would not have to continue forever, let the story lead the way.

It would provide an opportunity for those new to EVE RP to engage in same safe High Sec pvp with a storyline.

Sounds like an interesting idea! Maybe find a quiet constellation and wage perma-war there? I'd sign up, provided one side would be Sansha/Blood Raider Smile

I have often suggested that RvB take on a RP angle in some way. Their current story of two 'empires' at war is just dumb.

A combat sports league, drawing off the incredible revenue opportunities presented by the cluster's biggest phenomenon, The Alliance Tournament, would seem ideal to me.

A region is set as the 'arena'. The teams are formed; it could even be several teams, who says you need just two? Pilots who do well and rise in the ranks would gain fame across the cluster, with fans and interviews galore. A central 'commisioner' character could set special challenges and goals for the groups, with specific prizes. There could be famous rivalries. New pilots could be entered into a draft, and the teams could fight over the new blood.

News reports on league results would draw constant attention to this whole thing, without relying on recruitment forum spam. RvB is a constant thing, which requires a char to be permanently committed to the corp, but a league could have 'seasons' and 'off-seasons' to keep things fresh.

Just a few of potentially hundreds of approaches. The possibilities are endless.

(((Locked, no. Moved, yes. Because the idea does have merit. You could take a sports angle as pointed out above. It could simply be a collection of deranged pilots hell-bent on perpetuating mutual conflict. Corporate factions. Combat research...

I would have considered joining RvB if it were possible to do it and still roleplay.))

Before faction war, many RP corps had mutual Concord wars. Some were very fun, others were a miserable waste of time. The problem you will have is that not all RPers liek pewpew and not many RPers liek to lose. They especially don't liek to lose at RP, if such a thing is possible. Well, many believe so, which makes many RP wars miserable.

Oh, and a lot of RPers fit stabs and run away a lot with the usual excuse of cba to pewpew, which also makes RP wars boring.

More power to you though if you can make it work.

What would be ideal is having a corp for each RP faction, then having them all overlap with mutual wars. Would spread out the pewpew thereby helping to prevent too much focus on any one single corp.

The topic is there, since this is an IC forum and I was wrong to post here in an OOC form. I suppose I could have made a similar post here in an IC format with an OOC message, but it is what it is.

Please contribute and post on the thread I linked above. It would be interested to get a group of smaller corps together within a few systems of each other for some interesting RP-PvP (Not even PvP if diplomacy is used correctly.) I was inspired by playing RvB in EVE, then playing Civ 5 right afterwards by the way, hopefully you understand where I'm coming from.

**Because I posted my latest thread in the 'General Discussion' (since I could not see any other forums that it would fit into) please be advised that it will likely be trolled (which is why I wanted to post here). Please look past any trolling and contribute your opinion.

Should be a lot of fun though if we get this going. A seperation of IC and OOC would have to made clear to make this work. That would most likely be the biggest challenge.

My most revered Prefect Steiner, may I assume that your idea about initiating some reason for conflict in our troubled society is not developed furthermore?

Or did I just overlook the invitation to another conference? I tried to make my voice heared during your announcement to the (probably unwashed) masses, but I guess you didn't take note.

You may contact me at my private lounge at Amarr VIII.

yet.. would that have been posted elsewhere, we would not have noticed it.

I support this initiative, to inject a higher motivation into our conflicts.

Maybe, the "useless" ones had similar thoughts and are allowing an exception.

This sounds interesting to me and I am willing to hear more about the details.

I would like to know how lenient you are willing to be with the story? what are the possibilities.

There already is in faction warfare. In previous threads on this, it was expressed that faction warfare is too reliant on "blobs."

So, if the purpose of this as opposed to FW is to ensure some sort of structured fights (which is not a bad idea), then I'd advise developing a roleplay framework that supports this structure. The above named 'arena' situation would work for that. Or, you could be space knights of some sort.

The problem with maintaining structured fights, especially in a roleplay context, is that everyone wants to win. We see this in FW, where despite there being no presumption of fairness, many players still spend much of their time complaining in local and on forums about how out of line the other side is. For an example, see the Warfare and Tactics forum. It's terrible.

So, there would need to be some sort of firm structure to the rules with enforcement mechanism. Perhaps some sort of council between the two sides, or a third party enlisted to administer disputes. Even with that, it could be tough to hold it together. The roleplay element will make this even more difficult. Players hate losing already, and they are going to really hate losing when it says how great and awesome they are right there in their biography. Further, accusations of impropriety (which are inevitable in any structured game) will offend not just the player, but the character.

So to survive, you'll need a strong referee structure, and to somehow ensure all players remain on board with accepting the referee's decisions.

I will repost what I wrote in the 'General' forum:

If this would be like Red vs Blue with a political background and actually advancing storyline I could be interested one day. RvB has more of a 'sports'-feeling, clean and somewhat bland (not implying that isn't okay, but boring from a roleplaying-perspective).

Idea: build a corporation per empire/faction (alliances later, once this gets off the ground), overlap the high-sec fringe regions of the factional warfare zones, and establish a border conflict zone. Tie it into FW by providing logistics, or simulate landholders/companies/military support trying to secure the 'hinterland' against your opposing corp/alliance.

Idea: build up a localized story of political backstabbing and possession-conflicts, like quarelling nobles/rival companies/blood feuds. Build a couple of corporations with defined spheres of influence, then try to push into the others' spheres. Be it rights to mine asteroid belts, planetary interaction, or just flying through space.

Like simulated null-sec made possible by the wardec-mechanics. No game-ressource rewards, but fabulous RP-possibilities and less griefing. Straight NRDS because CONCORD is breathing down your neck and no harassement of innocent bystanders...

Though after this exposition I guess the biggest problem would be to keep it safe and isolated, as I think the 'griefers' would be most interested to intervene at any given moment...

Though again as soon as that environment has stabilized it could be woven into the story: you know, akin to the classic endless hordes of orcs, our own storyline 'pirates', or simple highwaymen that riddle the region... Wink
