A few weeks ago I started a competition to try to help encourage community-based activism amongst eve-players. The thread was rapidly kicked over to the Events and Gatherings forum and likely had very little to do with the burst activity that followed on from the events of the Incarna deployment and the surrounding leaks. Despite this there is still 10bil of prize money on the table and a considerable number of protests of various forms to choose the winner (7.5bil) and the runner-up (2.5bil) from.

My initial intention was to have the judging done by a panel of the great and the good. However, the feelers I put out were not always welcomed and I was unable to find a sufficiently well-balanced team that I was happy with. So I will fall back on the democratic (or ochlocratic) expedient of a popular vote. Due to the possibility of a vote split on 'party lines' this may well lead to an interesting result. But as the old saying goes, 'Hail Eris!! All hail discordia!!!'.

I have compiled a short-list of four of my favourite acts of dissent. The criteria were effectiveness and creativity within the spirit of the game. There was no criterion for the end aimed at, though, and one of the four entries is an inventive protest against the general run of anti-CCP/Incarna/NeX protest. The other three fall more within the mainstream.

In order to vote, simply post the number or name of your favourite. The votes will be tallied one week from now (I'll bump the thread once a day) with the first prize going to the project with the highest vote and the second prize going to that with the second highest number. Each character may only vote once but there is obviously nothing to stop alt voting.

So, the nominees are:

1) Kristina Vanszar for the 'Jita Monument Protest'
This one obviously scored highly for effectiveness given the media attention it brought to the issues. Also extended beyond Jita.

2) Tobiaz for the 'Unsub Tally Thread'
A simple premise but evidently an idea lots of people could get behind and a project that seems to have made an impact on CCP (going on CSM statements).

3) Wyke Mossari and Liberty Eternal for 'The Great Luminaire Titan Scam'
One of my favourites. Wyke and Liberty led an attempt to get protesters to blow up the Luminaire Titan. What the 400 or so who followed them didn't know is that they were not sympathetic to the protesters and the aim was to damage the Jita protest by moving large numbers of players elsewhere. A short-lived effort but with lots of EvE spirit.

4) Maziy and Dimitri Fukoyama for the 'John Turbefield Thread'
Lots of very creative artwork in this thread. Helped create a new divinity in the EvE pantheon and provided light relief for both sides of the debate. The prize here will be split between the OP and the first creative artist.

So, there are your choices. Vote now!

None. No single individual is more important than the rest that participated. More prominent in the public eye maybe, but without the rest, no one would have noticed them either. Putting them on a pedestal is a insult towards all those that took part in the protests.

The point of the prizes was not to reward people for protesting but to encourgae people to organise (very loosely construed in the case of the Turbefield thread) activities.

There is no intention to put these people on a pedestal as 'good people', only to give them a small amount of cash. When I first started the original prize thread I had no idea that the protests would grow into a genuine mass movement although I was keen on encouraging any sort of mass activism. I'm sorry if you find this insulting in some way but I fear that this feeling might arise from a misunderstanding of the purpose of the prize in the first place.

I'll take your vote as a vote that I keep the money for myself though Wink

So, this is basically a thread.
About some threads.
About a Protest.
Against CCP.

Can we just vote that you use the 10B and purchase PLEXes off of the market, place them on to an alt account, and let the Alt account go inactive without using the Plexes? That seems the result with the most "in the spirit of the Protests" spirit.

I just love the fact that you continue to neglect that the Jita Fly In Protest was actually my ideal and started on your very thread and give the credit to someone else. Kristina V came along 2 days later and started another thread based off my ideal and she gets credit for it. How does that happen?

It may have been your idea, but the contest post specifies "the most creative acts of legitimate protest". If your idea of an act of legitimate protest is one post in one thread, you're mental.

Do you think I only posted my ideal in one thread? The very same day I started a thread 6/22/2011 to start promoting the Jita Fly in. Kristina didn't start hers until the 24th. She was not the first to promote the Jita Protest...that was my ideal.

We were also in game promoting it. Went to different chat channels to get people to participate.

I think credit should be given where credit is due. I vote for Khira Kitmatsu, a quick search shows she posted numerous times regarding this(not only in RAWs first thread but numerous ones - including her own) and got the protest going long before Kristina ever did.

My vote is for Khira.

Khira was the first to suggest the Jita fly in and was in game getting everyone to do it before Kristina Vanszar. Why is it that Kristina Vanszar is getting the credit when there is a thread that Khira originally posted in http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1534755 dated 22/06/2011 23:49:56? Then Khira created her own thread http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1534789&page=1 dated 2011.06.22 23:56:00. Again, PRIOR to ANY posts or threads made by Kristina Vanszar.

All votes for the Jita fly-in should go to Khira. And if Khira doen't get credit for starting this, it sounds to me like some sort of scam for one of your alts (so you don't actually have to pay it) or one of your friends to get credit for someone else's idea.

I vote for KHIRA'S idea of the Jita Fly in.

Wow, lol....

When I posted the Turbefield thread, I had no idea that it would become so popular. I enjoyed reading the responses and viewing the vast sea of creative pictures. That was reward enough for me.

I appreciate the nod, but I simply cannot be credited for what happened after I started that thread. The credit goes to the most amazing group of online gamers ever..... the Eve community. :)

So many hard choices.

1) Post CCP investor details and ask people to spam them in protest thread.
2) Ask lulzsec to ddos EvE again.
3) Overload Jita to grief normal players trying to use market.
4) Personal threats against CCP employees.
5) CCP corporate restructuring plans.
6) Self martyrdom without realising you're not as popular as your ego.

I'll still with 1. Truly shows the spirit of the protests.

I don't see how you can give credit to Kristina Vanszar for coming to this forum and posting another thread about something someone was already doing. If you look, Khira Kitamatsu posted the date and time the fly-in was supposed to occur in her thread. She was also IN GAME prior to that time advertising trying to rally players to Jita.

All Kristina Vanszar did was see what was going on in game, and 7 minutes before the scheduled time (established by Khira Kitamatsu in her protest thread posted two days prior), come to this forum to just post ANOTHER thread about something another player was ALREADY doing in-game.

Kristina Vanszar's "invite" thread to the Jita Fly-In was an invitation to an event someone else had already started. Question is, are you giving HER credit accidentally because you were not aware of who REALLY started it, or is Kristina Vanszar claiming to have started the Jita Fly-In protest? Either way, it has already been shown that Khira Kitamatsu had the idea first and I know was in game "rallying the troops" prior to and during the event.

Kristina appears on the short list because someone actually submitted the thread she started, as I asked for in my original thread. Khira may well have organised things too but despite stating this, no supporting material was submitted. If anyone wants to send the links my way I would be happy to accept her as a write in candidate.

Edit - Looking at Khira's thread it is not particularly impressive as an act of organisation and it seems clear that Kristina's thread had a much greater effect. I'm also somewhat concerned about post 6 in Khira's thread which seems to advocate breaking the EULA. But, as I said, if people want to write her in as a candidate then they can do so.

Well, Khira actually posted in YOUR thread with her idea. As for supporting materinal, consider MY post supporting material as proof that she was the ORIGINATOR of this idea. Also, consider MY post as a write in for her to be included. She was the one that was IN GAME in the Help channel, EVE Radio AND flying through each zone announcing to everyone in General Chat go to Jita the day of the event.

Being we have TWO candidates with the same idea, it is a matter of establishing WHO was the FIRST to do it. I think that has been done.

Not really. The idea itself is immaterial. Lots of people posted ideas but the prize is for organising/doing, not brainstorming.

I will not be removing Kristina from the shortlist as her place there is warranted. As for Khira, although all I've seen of her organising so far is a rather uninspiring thread I'm happy to accept your testimony that she was involved in ingame channels and, as I have said, you can vote for her as a write-in. If you could post a link to the eve-radio appearance that would also be appreciated.

I broke no EULA with my suggestion - and if I broke it then so did anyone promoting the Jita protest. So if you are going to try to use that to disqualify me, then you have to disqualify Kristina as well.

Also, what more proof do you need I not only posted in your thread when you announced the contest, but I also had my own thread that same day, and on numerous occasions posted in other threads of people that suggested what I suggested doing to make it clear that I had all ready got the ball rolling on the Jita protest. Go back to your original post and you'll see where I did this very thing.

For you to continue to deny what I did, shows you really had no intention of following through with your contest in a legitimate manner, and it was all BS.

My very first post and continued to post regarding it, should be proof enough that I was in fact the one that started the Jita protest and for you to continue to deny it means you do not care to do what is right and fair.

Kristina did nothing more than to post a thread REPEATING what Khira was already doing IN GAME. How much evidence do you need? Kristina even posted HER "invite" thread minutes before the scheduled time that Khira had already posted 2 days before.

I do not know Kristina, and don't know personally if she is trying to steal this idea or just tried to help out with her "invite" post with what was going on in-game. But the fact is, Khira was doing the work IN-GAME, not just on this one board.

This is sounding more and more like you are making excuses to not recognize that Khira was the one that was really behind the Jita Fly-In.

As for posting a link to the EVE-Radio appearance, it was posts in the EVE-Radio chat channel telling everyone to go to Jita. I don't think she took screenshots to show that she was doing this. She took it on good faith that her post in YOUR thread as well as her own thread would be proof enough that she was the one organizing this.

There is not really anything more to discuss here. I have accepted your nomination and have said people can vote for you. The shortlist represents my personal views and I'm not taking someone off it because you posted the idea first. I've said a number of time that that point doesn't really interest me. I suggest you focus on drumming up supporters to vote for you rather than spamming this thread with your outrage.
