There's been no unscheduled downtime for anywhere near 24 hours in quite a while, must just be you. But we have had a few unexpected interruptions recently, personally I've only been hit by one since Incarna but I know there has been a few more than that.

14 downtimes? Not even PSN goes down that much. You must be trying to play during Scheduled Downtime. During that period the servers are supposed to be down. They use that time to patch up the game and make it better.

Also EVE is a game that rewards determination. This isn't WoW or Runescape. Playing with the mindset that you will find some easy way to become rich after a month will get you nowhere.

I hate it when new players think that they know everything about the game. Maybe if you spent some time actually learning about the game you play you would figure out how to enjoy it.

The good thing about EVEs harsh learning curve is that it keeps the annoying kids that don't want to work for success. EVE is Capitalist, not Communist. Work hard and it will pay off, give up and expect someone to help you and you will get no where.

No matter how much time you have spent on this game, you are a fool to keep paying a company like this your money. This is no argument to be had. It's a shocking insult to what seems to be a loyal fan base and I pity each of you that are too addicted to stop paying for their, and all their alt accounts.

This game is poorly designed for new people, and hardly does anything to make me want to keep playing. I am a sci-fi and MMO fanatic, I wish I could love Eve. The core members maybe loyal, but new people like me will never stick around for such a shoddy run game.

you say you've only played half of the 35 days you've owned your account, i say this, one: you have not given EVE a chance and two that is not near enough time to form an opinion about a Company. As stated before EVE has been running for over 8 years in which i have played 6 of those. For a game that is normally a Pay to play that you pay via ISK, freely trade characters, and has run longer than most MMO's out there now (please note i said most) i say that the 100K+ players that enjoy this game on a daily bases prove that a few downtime issues can be over looked. Why dont you go back to WoW or Rift or where ever you came from and deal with them, you obviously dont need to be involved in a game where it actually makes you think about what your doing vs grinding out your day. kthx

Being a developer myself I know how a little glitch can bring a system down. A database this complex it is easy for a glich to crawl in. Shoddy? I dare you to create a database the size and complexity of the one used by EVE and have it never crash. Good Luck.

When Wrath of the Lich King was released the servers where so buggy and they where restarted regularly for about a month, when the bugs where worked out the servers where fine. Then Cataclysm came and same thing happened. When the new SW game comes they are going to have the same problems. When they release an expansion, same thing will happen.

If this was the norm do you REALLY think this game would have lasted 8 years? This is just a case of "expansion release hickups", nothing more.

Devs & Testers can test a program all they want, but nothing breaks a exelently developed program like a user. There are always unforseen actions, data inputs, etc. I am an EVE fan yes, but I hate it when people accuse developers of "shoddy coding" without a glimmer of an idea of the work involved. I have the utmost respect for MMO developers (not just CCP Devs) because of the work they do.

PS> I hear Hello Kitty Online has no downtimes.

My tips in order;

1) Stop playing during the 1 hour down-time that occurs daily for server maintenance and 1 hour after that. If you spend time trying to play the game at other times, you'll probably find more success.

2) CCP posts when server-wide system failures occur. As I played a good period of time yesterday, a very long period on wednesday, and pretty much the same the other 5 days of the week, empirical evidence gathered by a probably large sample size with results similar to mine (as I was flying with a good number of them on an alt) state your null hypothesis of "Fail Servers for 5 min downtimes" false.

3) Downtimes have been more frequent. Whoo hoo. 1 hour out of a possible 48 hours of gaming where my skills are still training and all my items are still in my hangar. My lord, big loss. Rolling Eyes

Ah kk, Very Happy yea my old office was about a block or two from a firehouse as well so I got pretty accustomed to hearing them rolling up and down the street every hour or so.

But yea, I had this wild picture of someone sitting at a computer pelting internet spaceships by a window in the room while this raging inferno consumed the house next to theirs and they were too busy to glance outside and notice.

Thanks for clearing that up! Hehe Razz

If you really love sci-fi and space MMO's then you won't find another game like this. I also cannot understand how you can speak of 50% not playing in the last month. Admittedly the servers have had some issues but not NEARLY as much as what you are suggesting. I've been playing most of those days for at least a little bit.
Don't try to play during daily downtime and stop exaggerating.

Edit: And are you seriously complaining about the 2 reasonable replies you got in this thread? http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1546186&page=1#25

The OP is on to something.
If CCP are trying to encourage more people into Eve they sure are doing a very bad job at it !

Eve Offline logs the availability/players online for the TQ server and yes there are a lot of drops recently ... this current one makes 4 unscheduled outages in the last 24 hrs alone.

Sure they may not be for long though in a supposedly persistent universe that hardly makes things persistent !!
And if you're actually playing in space when this happens it's a PIA (pain in the you know where) having to wait to get back on and hope that u haven't lost ya drones/ship/pod etc.

It's a little like trying to bake a cake when the fire alarm goes off every hour and each time you get back inside u find all ya ingredients r gone and you have to go all the way to the store again to replace them all ... definitely a MASSIVE WASTE OF TIME.
Which was exactly the summary of a review I saw a couple of years back hehe

I've been playing a while and I initially believed the promises that things would be fix soon™ tho after another 2 yrs that hope is dying and was pretty heavily stomped on lately! Cause there are many that will blindly believe and hold the faith in spite of evidence to the contrary as we all know Rolling Eyes

I paid for a 12 mth sub so kinda stuck here for now with fingers crossed ... tho that bulkhead door is becoming very tempting.

Cause if that time comes then I will be jettisoning all my stuff with pamphlets for addiction support groups in popular areas of Empire ;D

I don't understand how anyone can dispute the time? Why would I bother to lie?

I work full time, like a lot of people, so when I do have some spare time, how I spend it is important. Don't want to waste it.

There has been Incarna, Lulzsec, Extended updates, and several crashes like this. Guess I joined at a bad time?

Whatever, it's idiotic to argue that all this down time is acceptable, and if you do you are jut another addict that CCP have by the balls.

And whoever said I just haven't given it long enough. A month should be sufficient amount of time. No game should need longer than that, or it's not doing a very good job.

*edit* No im not couting scheduled down time obviously, that's why I said unscheduled =/

And If the server goes down, comes back up, then goes back down 5 minutes later, I count that as two. Not one set of hiccups. If you do it that way, this was 14th~ time.

Dispute what, you DID NOT list dates or times, nor any third party verification that it was not just your internet connection.

You would make quite possibly the worst lawyer ever in existence.

Reminds me of this blip I saw on a TV show last night, some trucker stopped and parked at a strip joint, left his son in the sleeper cab, and then got so sloshed, he forgot where his truck was parked and called the emergency line to report it stolen.

Did I mention he was a trucker and he parked in the lot in front of the strip joint?

The fact that a lot of 'veteran' EVE Online players are made up of obnoxious pricks telling you to GTFO as soon as you log in the game or forums, I think I must have made an account at revelations or something and I still have trouble figuring things out because of how rubbish the tutorials are since they don't explain basic things like "There are no blueprint copies on the market anymore so don't worry".

EVE players seem to like making themselves out to be better than WoW players somehow but not only is that incredibly arrogant I think there are honestly times when EVE players are worse. How does looking at a spreadsheet for several hours make you cool? How does ganging up on new players somehow make you better than everyone else? It really is pathetic, I'd like to see any of these *******s play a game that requires skill rather than just grinding ISK and waiting for your account to train skills because they'd instantly cry about how unfair it is. You can even tell that's what they'd do because they immediately object to any changes coming in that would make it so that they can't gatecamp for a few hours and get kills that way without any risk to their characters.

eve-offline? really?

and who monitors their connectivity and how does a graph tell you what is an actual cluster down and what is a connectivity or internal issue of the server creating the graph.

Congratulations on failing to be witty and looking more like a ******ed troll.

The correct analogy would be:
"I bought 4 points of beer in advance, and they taste like ****, yet everyone is the town doesn't know any better and/or are stupid, so would much rather defend it that accept that fact that the brewery are openly ****ing in their pints. Oh way, may as well finish this last pint since i've payed for it now. At least maybe I can point out the obvious pint-****ing to a few people who are a bit more open minded."
