Hi

Looking at upgrading to a C5 from a C2 .. I know its a big jump.

Would like to get a heads up on ship make ups and strategies that would go into a successful group run?

Also how do you deal with Visitors who may come in Capitals ? ( I heard C5 can often have a backdoor into 0.0 )

Finally whats the safest type of C5 to get into ie do they have C2 statics, etc ?

Thanks

3 Basilisks/Guardian's

2 or more DPS ships

2 Carrier's and 2 Dread's for Escalation

If your WH gets attacked by a substantial amount of capital ships then i say look for an exit and grab what you can.

Best advice is to stage out of a C6 with C5 statics. Farm the C5s, leave the C6 alone.

Beginning strategy:
For safety, go all-armor fit ships (Amarr/Gallente/Minnie). More buffer means more time to react when aggro shifts. All Logis need Logi V. I repeat, All Logis need Logi V. Three Guardians are optimal, you might get away with two Guardians and one Oneiros. You need 8-9 ships total for efficiency, 3 Logi and 5 DPS, one salvage that warps in late.

When you get good at that:
Warp one or two Carriers/Dreads in for bonus escalation. They just sit there looking pretty, scanning for trouble on the D-scan. Fighters can be assigned for more DPS.

When you're bored of the above:
Play with shield-fit teams, which have way more DPS (and therefore higher isk/hour) but the margin for error is much lower. You will wipe out if you try this first.

After all that:
Start working on Gas mining and refining, in C5's its a goldmine. Needs a separate POS in your WH.

Feel free to contact me in game for info, we recently moved from a class 2 to a class 5, and can currently do every single site. (Have some spreadsheets over the combat sites for what is needed I could share)

If you have a gang booster, all you really need to run sites (albiet, very slowly) is 3 characters in site. 3 tengu's RR each other will work, if you manage your aggro, and I also got a rattlesnake/SNI/mach trio to work well for me. Now, if you can put 5 characters on the field, then you are better off with 2 logi's, 1 support ship, and 2 damage dealers. Ex. would be 2 scimitars, 1 rattlesnake with 2 RR in highslots, and then 2 damage dealers of choice. You can swap out the support ship with another logi if you want. If you can field more people than that, just start adding damage dealers.

As far as getting visitors, you have 2 options. The first is to not store anything important at your POS, and just get your stuff and GTFO if someone stops by. The second option is to have a nice little deathstar setup, and be able to field numerous capships of your own. It is important to have ECM on your POS, as well as neuts (ecm to break RR chains, neuts to cap out dreads in seige mode). Just be prepared to loose that POS as well against a determined opponent.

As far as safest type of C5, that would be a C5 with C5 static. C5's are pretty friggen empty, and no one really wants C5 statics because its hard to run outside of your own hole unless you have a large group, and you can't run them without support, which is why everyone prefers to have c3 and lower statics, hence those being the more commonly inhabited holes. Just be prepared to not have any exits for quite some time, or having to go through numerous other systems before you find on. My current record was 6 C5's with C5 statics all linking to each other with no exits to K-space, and it could have continued farther if I hadn't given up on finding an exit for that day.

Can anyone confirm if there is a combination of a carrier (Thanny or Archon) and 2 other subcap ships (preferebly BS) that could handle C5 sites?

I don't think anyone will give you that. I know 6 carriers can tank a double escalation c6. 2-3 should be able to do a C5. Problem is you double escalate and I don't know if the c5 escalations are as hard as the c6. Either way it would be tough. T3 would be better than BS also. BS get hit easily. You will have problems hitting frigs.

How about a Thanny with 3 other subcaps? Maybe a Vigilant/Vindi for uber webs. (However, hesitant to spend so much on a Vindi).

If 3000-4000 DPS tank is enough then should be able to handle it.

The neuts may totally cap out 1 carrier, even in triage.
