If CCP wanted you to do that, it would have been an advertised feature and you'd have a menu to point the CQ screen at your video jukebox folder.

The real question is... Why on earth wasn't it an advertised feature? Why doesn't CCP want us to do this? How did they not anticipate that we'd all want this and why didn't they say to the incarna haters "oh yeah, you think you don't like it, but look at this..."

This makes CQ so much cooler. If I'd developed that screen and knew how easy it was to make vids available to the player I'd have been pushing for a jukebox feature just so all my awesome work was used to the fullest. This is just so awesome.

Please consider some of these features CCP. jukebox with basic controls. MP4 or avi if possible. Some streaming video, even if it has to be done in some kind of CCP specific way so we can watch a few things like tournaments and station feeds.

We are all being good about this CCP. Nobody is trying to step on your toes here. Nobody is saying they'll even do this if you say stop. But please don't say stop. Take this thread as a compliment. We've realized something cool about incarna and now we want to use it.

It'd make my day if CCP came into this thread and said "Oh guys, shucks. You spoiled the surprise. We were gonna throw in jukebox features soon. We're way ahead of you."

I'm no expert, but would CCP be allowed to promote the watching of copyright materials throught their game?

As I said I don't know, was just a thought.

It'd be no different than any other "media player" or anything. Is winamp under constant legal pressure because it allows the listening of copyrighted materials? Nopers. Nor is iTunes or Windows Media Player.

As long as no information was moved through CCP's network, it would be user's responsability AFAIK, and would be the same as with other media players.

Even if it were, they'd just be a common carrier(at least as far as US law is concerned).

This only comes into play if you're able to share the content with other players. If only you were able to watch this in your CQ, the issue is moot.

If you are able only able to play files from your local computer then you're fine. See in-game jukebox already.

I must say, this is the best feature of CQ I've yet to experience. All we need now is CCP to give an official statement telling if this is a violation of the EULA.

I assume that this would be the part of the EULA in question:

2. You may not use your own or third-party software to modify any content appearing within the Game environment or change how the Game is played.

Please CCP, let us have this fix

I'm sure it's technically against the EULA per what you quoted. But a comment like, "While against the EULA, we have no way to determine or enforce the modification of this specific instance" would be nice. Another reason for the silence would be that if CCP doesn't have a problem with this and said so they might have trouble enforcing future violations.

Bah, I just want to have Blade Runner playing on my CQ TV Sad

I think next patch will disable this "feature"

This is the reason CCP is quiet. They are postponing the rage

Why would CCP ignore their player-base and disable something that makes a feature worth having? Have they done something like that before?

Because they can consider this feature as an client exploit.

Until we have an official statement from CCP, we have to think in all possibilities. I vote for an improvement in this feature, allowing us to add our videos in a much more easy way.

Incarna rage:

1: ITS JUST BARBIES IN SPACE
2: QQ NEX STORE PRICES
3: USELESS!

If CCP had planned something like this:

1: ITS JUST BARBIES IN SPACE
2: QQ NEX STORE PRICES
3: AND SOME ****TY VIDEO JUKEBOX, I CAN ALT-TAB FOR THAT CRAP
4: USELESS!

The only reason anyone is excited about this is because CCP didn't announce it and players have brought the functionality to light. This has huge potential but everyone loves it purely because CCP didn't do it.

I also like it because I don't have to alt-tab. Would let me multitask in one additional fashion.

Its definitely awesome, I agree. I'm just stating for the record that if this was officially allowed and announced before Incarna dropped then it would have been lumped in with the rest of the complaints about CQ being pointless. Now that it has been 'discovered' so to speak it has become "the one useful thing in this expansion" only because CCP didnt do it. Wink

OP - wonderful, but did it have to be Ponies? I liked the Great Dictator one better.

Ponies make everything better.

Damn you all. I'm halfway through episode 2. Embarassed

Further, CCP. Response. DO IT!! C'mon Scottsman, show us you've got a pair under your kilt. (As an aside, anyone notice that the "Dev Finder" and several other pages on the site are woefully out of date? I mean, c'mon. The "Patch Notes" for "In Testing" are from Dominion, ffs.)

I only have around 1 hour a night to watch/play anything. That leaves 23 hours conversion time per one hour watch time. I should be okay till the weekend, then I'm screwed!

What program does one advise people should use to transfer DVDs to WMV to transfer to .blk?

Or can I transfer from .blk directly from DVD?

That would be awesome if they open it up.
I would pay a few aurum for that functionality (even if it should be free).

Once open they should allow player to put in/built a library of files that could be streamed.
They could even put in a few eve related commercials.

Please CCP allow the user to use the screen for RL stuff.
