I'm looking at buying a Macbook Pro but want to be sure the Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics card is up to the job, especially since Incarna came out. I had more faith in the NVIDIA GeForce 320M cards they had before and since I might buy refurbished this might be an option also. Any suggestions?

I have a Macbook Pro. I don't recommend an integrated graphics card. Go with a dedicated card. Most Macbooks have them nowadays. I have had my MB for over a year and it has 256MB dedicated graphics and does the job perfectly. I have a few glitches with the new expansion but overall everything works great. If you need help if finding a system more suitable for you let me know.

Sandy Bridge HD Graphics are right now up to the job, BUT they still are somewhat lacking and are imo a poor long term choice. So go with a dedicated gpu with your mac book it is worth the extra money medium and long-term. If Apple would use AMD Llano APUs I would say something else, but right now sandy bridge simply is lacking for gaming still. Oh, and btw the 3000 are close to those 320m gpus, so going with a 320m ainīt a good choice either.

I have a 13" MBP with an Nvidia 320M (256mb). It does the job just fine so long as you aren't expecting anything too fancy / perfectly smooth. The stations are a bit glitchy (and also kick your running temps in the ****) but actually out in space is fine. Personally I'd swerve a Mac though - I paid a grand for this and, yeah, it's good and everything... but for the same price you could get a Dell XPS 17" which is much higher spec and you can 'Hackintosh' it anyway.

Makes more sense imo.

Guys

I'm looking at the same thing. I currently have an ageing PC from 2005 with a dual opteron 244 and nvidia 6600gt. The graphics on this are fine for my Eve playing. 3D Mark 06 shows the 3000 with about triple the score of the 6600gt.

I've never played games under OS X before - will my eve experience be better or worse than it is currently?

Cheers!

Eve is the only game I play on my MBP but the heat thing is an issue sometimes.

I'm guessing you've got nothing better to do than to troll the Mac forum being childish... Have you actually tried getting a life?

I'm running with the last generation MBP with the Nvidia 9400/9600 combo and the only issues I have honestly is CQ being choppy as since in max video settings. if money is a factor I'd look at a re-furb then, but if not skip the 13' models and jump up to the 15's. Even the low end 6k series ATI card should still greatly out perfrom 300 series Nvidia card. Here's my two cents...
