Probably will be running with a small population, 50k subscribers. Pretty much like Everquest still stands nowadays.

If another gaming company comes up with a Better EVE, better graphics, gameplay it wont take long before the majority of player leave. MT wont hold anyone in EVE instead of fresh game content.

Right, cause they must be homosexual to be vampires.

No. This latest outbreak of rage displayed one thing: the community is ready for a real competitor.
Perpetuum isn't gonna be that competitor, and isn't very good.
Infinity has potential, but seems to be much closer to Vaporware than a working project.

What EVE really needs is a dedicated effort by CCP to rebuild major aspects of the game. But, if you believe that EVE is on the decline - it may not be worth the cost, which would explain why CCP hasn't put this effort in.

The proper term is "metrosexual vampire" its all the lame things we often associate with gays but it makes the point that it really dosnt matter who you bang - its how you act that makes you lame.

Yep, most likely Second Life in space. With microtransactions, ofc.

It's inevitable.

That's the usual amount already playing the game.

EvE will be around in 10 yrs. No question about it. However, EvE will not be the same game I played when I joined in 2006, it had started to slip away from it's self slowly with the release of Apocrypha and is now losing it's soul.

EvE will be around...just not as we know it now.

I joined EVE in 2010 and am pretty thrilled with what I've seen so far - and CCP's visions for the future look pretty good to me.

I just hope EVE players can one day land their ships on planets and get out and walk around. Perhaps construct subterranean (or submarine?) hangars - with every ship, mineral and weapon physically represented (icons do get pretty tiresome). If DUST 514 and EVE could ever be the same game I'd be over the moon.

I'd like EVE to feel more physical. I'd like to be able to get out of the pod and walk around the ship, conducting repairs etc. - Maybe man a turret - take passengers. Perhaps allow for joysticks? (Just make it less point-and-click). eg. Flying through planets makes me feel like the planet is a graphic rather than a real object. Warps should plot paths around physical objects rather than fly through them.

If EVE can't provide these things, I guess I'll get tired of it and find something that does. But I think CCP are doing a pretty good job at the mo.

It took CCP around 10 years to develop EVE.. You have to see the early alpha screenshots where everything is 2D and there is no 3D engine yet, to understand that EVE is/was a unique succes because the initial CCP devs put real love into the development of the game.

ATM its obvious EVE gets no love from CCP, but I know for a fact that they can make and keep EVE to be the ultimate space MMO out there for many years, if they do put efford into it.

Most of these people have been playing for less then a quarter the time that I have. Excuse me for considering them to be uninformed, inexperienced blowhards who wouldn't know what the fuck was going on behind the scenes if I walked over to their house and hit them repeatedly in the head with a clue-by-four.

Its no coincidence that likelihood of whining on the forums increases with character age and degree of activity within eve. Play long enough, and even your eyes might open.

Rolling Eyes

An example of the kind of good natured optimism new players show, combined with total ignorance of how eve works. Quirky and nice, but as soon as they open their mouths, you lose all respect for their opinions because you know they don't have any deep understanding to base those opinions on.

Just for reference JetRed, eve online updates once per second, and most players have between a 1 and 3 second delay on their commands at any given time. Imagine joystick control where you are 3 seconds behind the action and your joystick location is only detected once a second.

This topic comes up in F&I about twice a week, and has been getting the same response for as long as I've been posting there.

1-2 years ago i would have said YES unconditionally.

But now? I don't know, there is no MT game that every survived close to 10 years. The pattern of MT is always the same, saturation/new items till its totally ****ed up. FtP somewhat mitigates that effect, as you prolong the life of such a game by using freeloaders as cannon fodder for the paying customers. But thats nothing that lasts long.

EVE is not FtP, so this can go downhill fast, very fast once saturation of vanity items occurs and they ponder the idea of PtW items (they already do).

This.

Right, cause they must be homosexual to be vampires.

The last non-homo vampire was Dracula as originally written. Folk vampires sometimes also fall into the non-homo group. Modern vampire fictions are rooted in homosexuality (or at best, bi-sexuality), down to their very core (Anne Rice's work influenced the modern vampire to be a character rather than a vague idea, and most of her work reads like gay prno.)

But no, EVE won't be around in 10 years. Assuming CCP doesn't fold entirely in the next 2 years, what will be around is a janitor who keeps the lights on. As long as there are the 300-400 subscribers who forgot to cancel their accounts paying to keep the power bill and the internet bill paid, it won't be shut down. But it won't be EVE either.

really? Because I'm pretty sure walking in closet was released and that the population didn't boom. Oh, except you didn't noticed it was even released because it's ****. Yeah, more walking in sofa stuff will be released, but what makes you think for a second that it won't suck? Remember last time CCP tried to innovate? With PI? Yeah... really innovative... it's so innovative it was done by highschoolers and shoulda been in Flash.

Can you imagine where the game will be in 10 years?

1:
We can have Nex store for everything :D ...or at least vanity items, which would include rainbow drakes, gold-painted ammo, corp medal's, logo's made through the nex store (yes, changing and creating these creates too much of a demand on the databases... need to get more money to support the databases).

Requirements: Just play and pay (more)
________________________________
2:
or we can have the EVE online we all fell in love with for the past 8 years.
Where the players drive the market and can create and customize in-game stuff.

Requirements: Unsubscribe (gain real life points!)

I'm often confused by people who either claim Eve is or has failed as a game because of recent events and how the last 8 years is wasted faith and effort in the company and game. This game has out right rocked for at least 6 of the 8 years its been out and has been growing in population the entire time. The time spent in this game has been awsome for me and their is no question in my mind that Eve will go down in history as one of the best MMO's of all time regardless of what happens from this point forward. In fact it already is one of the best MMO's of all time, a fact nothing CCP can do from this point forward to change that. That legacy is as secure as solid gold.

That said I suspect 10 years from now this game will be reduced to a small cult following for no other reason than no MMO can suistain a state of growth like it has enjoyed.

i agree with one of the previous posters - a few years ago I would have told you (and did tell friends) that this game would be around for awhile and how great it was to have started it so early (ala 04) but today I am not so sure.

Its not just that Incarna was such a huge drain on resorces that could have better been used in updating ship models (pretty easy task tbh - hell you can get a lot of the community to do it for free) really investing in the things that CSM has suggested to them, working on FW, PI, 0.0, Moongoo, and a whole host of things that have come our way since the begining. And while the begining was a lot clunkier and akward, it was also just as complicated and simple at the same time.

Much like wow - which I played from the first week till Nec (right before BE), before server transfers and all that junk. It was fun, competative community on Arthas (EST/US) server (o/ Aurora/BGC). If I returned, it would be like playing a new game - except I would miss the old one.

I suspect the same here.
