Which CAD? There are many many CAD programs on the market. Please be more specific as some CAD programs offer more flexibility than others. I currently work with two of the major CAD programs but also work with several 3D animation programs that are used extensively in the gaming market for design and you might have better luck going that route. Or it may be possible to go EvE > 3D Program > CAD before you get the results when extracting.

I'm not too sure as to which program i will be using. The only specific is that I'm trying to convert an eve ship model to a .dfx file for scaling/editing.

You can use Triexporter (Forum Post) for converting models into 3ds format. That's a pretty common format, so it should work.

If not, download the 3ds max Trial to convert it into a whole range of formats. 3ds max also works smoothly with AutoCAD since they are both Autodesk products.

Or try gmax from Turbosquid. A fully functional program that is totally free.
