How safe is it to use 3rd party programs like asset manager that has to use full API key? Can it be used to hack my account or anything? Or am I just a paranoid mofo that looks to hard to find the wrong in everything?Shocked

Is it open source ? if not, well, don't trust it but it would be really stupid to advertise for a 3rd party tool here that hack your accounts. People would figure it out pretty quick.
Btw, full api key don't give access to your account, only to your in-game details (assets, etc..)

Your API credentials cannot be used to read your credit card data or to change something. They only provide access to in-game information like your access list, your skill queue or your current location. You can only read information about eve character or corporations.

If a bad guy gets access to your data it may be used for spying on you and your corp which could be helpful in case of war or for pirates, but thats it.

If you feel your API key is abused, go to www.eveonline.com/api and generate a new API key. This blocks all access via an old one and you are safe again.

Btw: it is a good idea to be a little paranoid, or better, have a healthy degree of mistrust against every application that asks sensitive data. No mather if it is EVE, a third party EVE app, Facebook or Google.Smile

Is this safe? Can someone steal my account?

It is safe to provide your user ID and API key to applications and web sites as long as you are prepared to allow the application or web site to see your character and corporation information.

Sharing your API key, full or limited, does NOT give people access to your account. Sharing your account password would. The API key only allows the recipient to view your character and corporation data but gives them NO control over it. They are NOT able to log in to the game or post on the forums with the API information. The API key is in no way generated from your account password - there is no way to calculate your password using this information.

This is the only safe way to give programs and web sites access to your data. Do not give out your account username or password to any person, program, or web site. Please keep in mind that doing so is a violation of the EULA and can lead to account termination.

Keep in mind though, that as of now the Full API Key is exactly that: full access to all API data available for all characters on your account.

Depending on the roles in your corp/alliance, this reveals a lot of information. And as it gives access to your EVEMail, even private information about yourself/other players might available, like email addresses or phone numbers you exchanged with others.

That said, CCP plans to change the API key system completely, letting you create all sorts of API keys where you can define which API data ("Skills" and "Production queue", for example) is accessible through that key.

The Api management page also provides a link to a page where you can view the log of recently Api calls to your account. If you think the data is being accessed by someone else you should see it here and can simply change your keys to prevent them.

If you just want to look at your skills and not monitor/plan your skill queue, see if Chribba's eveboard.com fits your needs.

Or simply Eve gate (gate.eveonline.com). Not so feature rich, but good for checking your mails, skills and skill queue.

This is a Mac skill planner that I wrote a while back, It's no longer in active development though, but I keep it up do date with CCPs database dumps.
