I just installed Eve on my ubuntu box no problems, but when I try to launch it, I briefly see a red cloudy screen (the base background of the incarna login) before my computer lags out and crashes my computer to a blackscreen within 5 seconds. It's not a fast computer but should be able to render anything that eve throws at it with moderate success... but this is weird.

Is there a winetrick or something like it that needs to be installed for this to work properly? Cause it ain't working for me, even though everybody else says it's working on ubuntu fine.

You really need to post hardware info Ace. Without that, you are spittin' in the wind for a solution.

As in: ubuntu will load on older non "Eve-capable" hardware...doesn't mean EVE will run.

Yes and yes.

I do not have a solution for you but my brand new Acer with an i5 chip and GEFORCE GT540M will not even properly install the NVIDIA drivers under Ubuntu.

I'd double check that your drivers are installed properly. But then again, I am sure you have done that already ;-)

Yeah - It's weird - I don't know if it's just a graphics problem or something else.

The only winetricks I have are the vcrun libraries, nothing else. Might I be missing something there?

First, you should check if your 3D-graphics is really working. Ubuntu had some trouble with the original nouveau module and some had to blacklist it, in order to get the binary nvidia-driver to work.

Install tuxracer or sth that needs OpenGL and run it, check framerates.

If you are sure, that your graphics driver work properly, which is NOT the case for the major part of players experiencing difficulties, then begin to tinker with eve/wine.

I hadn't seen mention of the corefonts through winetricks in this tread yet, it may not be part of the problem but unless something has changed you will need the arial font installed.
