(tl;dr is at the end of post)

This is an open-ended discussion directed at the CCP development team and its playerbase. While my assumptions might be incorrect, I think it would be safe to assume that CCP has introduced its questionably priced vanity items in the Noble Exchange Store as a way to make money to fund their company, as well as their other projects Dust 514 and WoD. I'm by no means a business or financial expert, but by looking at the following graph, I noticed a trend (which I've noted in bright, gross colors for all to see.)

EvE Online Subscription Graph

I had only joined EVE after Apocrypha had been deployed, but I've been told by many that it was the most successful and invigorating expansion CCP had developed to date. It introduced a lot of new SPACESHIPS content that allowed people to explore and build new things, as well as adding a new element to PvP in wormholes. It was an expansion that appealed to ALL players. As you can see from the graph, CCP gained over 50,000 NEW subscriptions due to the Apocrypha expansion. That is a LOT of revenue!

Afterwards, CCP released the Dominion and Tyrannis expansions. While I'm not one to comment about Dominion (never done the 0.0 sov content myself), the Tyrannis expansion was very ill-received by the community. Planetary interaction was poorly implemented and disappointed players who had been promised to be able to rule planets as a benevolent leader, or a tyrant. Nearly no new space content had been implemented.

So the suggestion and discussion I direct at CCP and the players respectively is this: It is very, very obvious from that graph that new and exciting space content sells. 50,000 subscribers is not a number to dismiss as a fluke. If CCP really does need the revenue, they need new content, not a highly controversial microtransaction store.

CCP should open Jove Space to the players. Introduce new quests, skills, weapons and ships. It would be the success of the Apocrypha expansion all over again! The lore has been 8 years in the making and it is the unknown reaches of space that the players are most interested in. Give us Jovian content, CCP, and you will see your subscription numbers soar!

My 2 cents.

TL;DR: CCP should introduce Jove Space content to get more players. Apocrypha has shown that exciting new space content will attract subscribers (over 50,000). Implementing Jove Space, something that all players have wanted to explore for the past 8 years, will, in theory, attract new and old subscribers alike.

Only if I can have an Eidolon. Have CCP even designed the new Jovian faces? I only ever saw one Jove portrait pre-Carbon and he looked like a melty wax alien.

I believe that would be the point. Everyone's gonna want to fly their shiny new green Jovian ships! (I know I would) As for the Jovian portraits? Well that's up to CCP's art team right? Show off the pretty Carbon engine!

If you think the current outcry is bad, imagine what it will be like if people can fly them virtually indestructable Jove ships. Eve will survive this MT thing but it definitely will not survive that.

Implying the Jove ships given to players will have the same capabilites of the ones the Jove themselves fly. I'd imagine CCP would impose lore limitations of some sort. (IE capsuleer technology does not integrate correctly with Jovian tech and significantly lowers the Jove ships capabilities under capsuleer control).

Fix fw, add the promised features to dominion for sov in null sec, develop low sec, etc. etc etc

Heres the problem. They have practically all their devs assigned to work on incarnatransactions, world of darkness, and dust.

There are only an extremely small number of devs assigned to work on the inspace part of eve. It really has been abandoned.

They had a faction war round table at fan fest - and no one from ccp showed up! Doh!

Until they have people assigned to work on the spaceship part of eve we will not be getting worthwhile expansions.

True they could do that but then there would be the outcry that they've just implimented new shiny's and not fixed X, Y and Z problems.

Edit, see post above.

I completely agree. However, CCP needs funding before they can divert time to fixing these features, and this is a very good way to promote that.

The post above - my prior post - correctly points out that there are hardly any devs assigned to in space features at all. There are only 22 devs for spaceship content new or old!

124 devs for eve total. Only 22 of those eve devs are assigned to in space eve. The rest are assigned to things like eve gate, dust links and the majority are assigned to incarnatransactions. So right there we see 83% of ccp's eve specific resources are assigned to things other than spaceships.

How many devs for dust. How many devs for WOD? When those games are added in I bet we end up with well over 90% of ccp resources assigned to things other than eve spaceships.

Now what game is funding all these non-eve related projects? Well how many money making games does ccp have?

Iím not saying all the money has to go back to what the players paying the bills want. But it would be nice if some of the money we paid went back into the game we like to play. Canít we even get a 50/50 split? Giving us pennies worth of content for per dollar we pay sucks.
