Don't.

Use a Harbinger for 3s and an Apoc for 4s.

Kind of hate working with BS and I already have significant time trained into Both Command Ships and Heavy Assualts. Any paticular reason Ultim8Evil.

Zealot = lack of tank, vunerable to webs, lack of range, bit of a glass hammer, Harbinger does a better job for 1/4 of the cost.

Absolution = lack of DPS at range, not enough tank to handle the toughest 4s, not enough gank to clear missions with timed spawns like EA 5/5, a BS is far better suited and cheaper.

Look, I'm not disagreeing with you about the zealot being a bad choice for PvE, but both the Harbinger and Zealot use medium guns, and the zealot gets a 50% optimal bonus the harbinger lacks. Just saying.

That said, the biggest issue is that lasers are best suited to fighting Sanshas and Bloods -- both of which hit your weak EM/thermal resists. This means that you have to add a lot of extra hardeners to compensate, which cuts into your damage and range modules.

Contrast this with the Tengu, which has a very high kinetic and thermal resist -- when both Serpentis and Guristas are weakest to kinetic.

Yeah the point I was trying to get at was that if you get in close with a Zealot, it's not going to last long. Do the same with a Harby and it'll last a bit longer, lol.

Depends on what you're fighting. If they're shooting kinetic or especially explosive at you, probably not -- the Zealot's T2 resists will give it a stronger tank.

If they're shooting lasers, well, obviously you're no better off. On the other hand, you only have to run 3.33 effective turrets instead of 3.5, so it's marginally easier on your capacitor. The zealot also trades a midslot for a low, so if you're fitting cap rechargers you can get more juice out of a capacitor power relay. And the smaller signature radius and faster speed on the zealot means you'll be taking less damage irrelevant of the source.

The Harbinger has 5% more in the way of effective turrets, but the Zealot will more than make up the difference in its 50% optimal range bonus.

The zealot really is superior in pretty much every respect to the Harbinger. It's just not very well optimized for PvE, so the difference isn't as noticeable. Of course, it's also more expensive.

Lmao speed/tank the sucker, pulse fit it, make sure you have scorch and a decent ab (Mind you only running t2)

4 slot tank, 3 hs, 1 ab, 2 cap re, 5 hp ii's, should easily be able to get it doing 600 ms with good skills (mines in 500's with no nav skills).

I ran the whole of The Assault? (Guristas with tons of ships in second gate) and agro'd the whole lot in the zealot and it took it happily, im not sure how it fairs in amarr though, i'd imagine well,

1) Higher base EM resist? (IIRC)
2) Turret tracking on Amarr Based Rats.

As for absol, i hear a good faction rep is the way to go but not sure!

While the Zealot is passable although far from ideal, I wouldn't take an Absolution in any case. Without the range you won't be able to project DPS well enough for lvl 4s.

yes a harbi can do it at 25% of the cost. but in saying that i used to solo mordus head hunters lvl 4 in a zealot.

a absol will solo all lvl 4 missions but you need the right tank. I used to omni tank all lvl 4 missions when i beared it up with angel cartel.

just need to know your ships.

i have to agree with battleships being the better choice for l4 and modified for speed and tracking also for l3.

But I used to fly a zealot in l3/4s with good results, especially if gates are far away (dont remember exactly, but there are some drone missions which require a lot of travel). This is my fit:

[Zealot, pve_pulse]
Imperial Navy Heat Sink
Imperial Navy Heat Sink
Imperial Navy Heat Sink
Tracking Enhancer II
Imperial Navy Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane
Imperial Navy Energized Thermic Membrane
Corelum C-Type Medium Armor Repairer

10MN Afterburner II
Stasis Webifier II
Cap Recharger II

Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M

Medium Energy Burst Aerator II
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I

The web is only for the occasional frig, that manages to get under your guns. rest should be self-explanatory.

The abso, as nice as it looks, has no real use in pve. the mwd mission change made it somewhat more interesting, but it still has too little range. i use mine only for a few missions like that:

[Absolution, Missions_MWD]
Imperial Navy Heat Sink
Imperial Navy Heat Sink
Imperial Navy Heat Sink
Tracking Enhancer II
Imperial Navy Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane
Imperial Navy Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane
Imperial Navy Medium Armor Repairer

Corelum C-Type 10MN MicroWarpdrive
Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II

Heavy Pulse Laser II, Multifrequency M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Multifrequency M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Multifrequency M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Multifrequency M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Multifrequency M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Multifrequency M
Medium Nosferatu II

Medium Energy Burst Aerator II
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I

Hobgoblin II x5

cheers!
