On small planets (radius under 4000km) shortest possible link can be around 45-50km. But on larger planets (radius 20000km) those links can be over 200km consuming more cpu and pg.

Take a note that I am now talking about linking ie. two processors together which are right next to each other. On small planet link is 45km and on large it is 200km.

So dear CCP could you please make factories fixed size so on, lets say very large gas planets those links wont be like +500km because of structure icons grow in relation to planet size.

Because this can be pain in the ass when I cant make same setup to 15000km radius lava planet that I already have on other 4000km radius lava planet. Rolling Eyes

Hi

We have been informed that some planets are better than others and making all planets the same would be boring. So they introduced structures minimum distance to each other. So now we also have good and not so good factory planets available.

Oh? ...wait. U meant to say they should make all planets the same. Maybe also make only 1 resource and no depletion. And just erase the hotspots. Make all the resources same density on the whole surface.

Let me tell you this. Making things more simple doesn't mean that they will be more fun. What i want to say is that this little things make EVE a great game. To figure out how to make the most from a planet and to overcome its limitations.

Sorry, OP, but if you start trying to reconcile EvE's game play mechanics with the realities of space (as we know them), your head will eventually explode.

Of course the planet links should be consistent regardless of planet size.

And all the highly prized minerals would not be found only in the outer regions in asteroid belts which, even if decimated, are respawned the next morning.

And any number of other things that would just not happen in "real" space.

Like the poster above said, it's these little details and learning how to deal with them that makes EvE so interesting, if not entirely compatible with reality.

My oh my, tried to explain my point like I would explain it to a child but apparently I failed. Either I would like to know if this is a bug or I would like get some rational/lore/story/whatever explanation why on large planets there needs to be more distance between structures than on small planets. And not just small differences, we are talking about 50-500km variations in minimum distances.

Also in part I quoted you described things I most like in EVE, figuring stuff out and overcoming problems. Like I have done now, my setup fill fit to planets less than 7000km radius. But that still wotn give me explanation for what I have asked.

If any CCP representative comes and says its working as intented, im okay with that. But there is still this small change of it being a bug and that is what I would like to know.

Hi!

Wow!

Did you read the OPs post or just not understand it? This has nothing to do with what makes a planet different than another. It has nothing to do with resources, game balance, simplicity of PI, or how fun PI is for you or anybody else.

There is a difference between the same item on different size planets of the same type. Now this would make sense for a structure on a Gas planet to be larger/smaller than on a Barren planet. But why would a gas structure vary in size in relation to other Gas size planets? He's asking for an explanation, be it a bug or some other reason.

If you don't understand what is being asked don't bother answering. You just make an arse out of yourself with an answer unrelated to what is being asked.

Ok I admit I could give him a simple answer and not try to be an arse instead, but who the fuc k are you trying to tell me what is right and what not!

Ye right he was only asking for an explanation.

A planets size is the only thing that makes a difference for factory planets. Take that away and all the planets are the same for reprocessing.

U mad? You appear to still fail to grasp underlying point of my original post. This will be last time I bother to reply unpolite, unconstructive idiot like you. You want complexity to factory planets? I give you complexity. Because there is good and bad complexity, this is bad and for an example advanced commodities production/turret tracking/PI resource gathering (hotspots etc.) is good complexity (and list goes on and on, EVE has VERY much good complexity).

How it is now:

Icon sizes in remote interface grow in relation to planet size thus setting different values to shortest possible links. And this is just so stupid complexity it made me think its a bug.

How it could be:

Greater mass of larger planets has stronger gravitational pull, thus links on said planets need stronger infrastucture. This will result for those links to require more power and cpu to negate harmful effects of high gravity. Possibilities on this field is endless to justify complexity. Extremely dense atmospheric gasses require to links be expensive and hard to maintain vacuum tubes for an example.

So, take your pick? Both will have same result. Cool

@Sir Malcolm I apologize that I didn't answer to your OP post in a polite manner. The original question was related only to shortest distance between 2 pins in Planetary View. Many did ask this in the past and we got many constructive answers. Fell free to search the forums for the one that works best for you. I know you think that its bad to scale the icons with the planets size. Does take away the feeling that big planets are big. Well the power consumption should not be altered and I like your explanation on the increased power requirements on larger planets. I don't know maybe they could do the UI like in Supreme Commander and not scale the icons at all and if you zoom close enough you could see the actual buildings on the planet. I wonder how we could know the minimum link distance then ...I guess CCP would come up with something. For now we know that because the icons start to overlap. It is sometimes annoying that we can't have same setups on same type of planets. But the game mechanics work as intended and redesigning the UI would not change this.

I should also apologize to @Diggles McGiggles but that last sentence of him made me rly angry: "If you don't understand what is being asked don't bother answering. You just make an arse out of yourself with an answer unrelated to what is being asked." he was right but it still made me angry Rolling Eyes

We should not forget that structure icons only represent the real buildings. The buildings on small and large Gas Planets are the same. Only the holographic icons scale up.

Well, now I have to eat my words. This is why we can sometimes have nice things. Thanks for this well mannered and constructive addition to my thread. (eventually... Wink)

So, basically, build factory installations on small planets.

This is a good tip, thanks.
