Mesmerized as you are with the potential to fund the future development of CCP products with MT from your existing eve playerbase, I can understand why in your devblog you failed to understand the underlying problem the community of EvE online percieves that you don't.
While I am sure your Marauding ancestors who first settled the shores of the barren rock you call home would be proud of your actions, and your spirit of "fearlessness", I would evoke the memory of another business enterprise of your forefathers, also coupled with a very nice public relations campaign that didn't end very well.
Whilst naming the place " Greenland" was sure to conjure images that would draw many new settlers and colonists, in the end, everyone left to play somewhere else, and currently the population stands at about 56,500, which will be what's left of your subscribing player base after this debacle, if you're lucky.Unrealisitic expectations, failure to adapt to the reality of life in a new environment and poor planning led to a leaders vision turning into a nightmare.Enthusiasm alone wasn't enough for longterm success.
It's good to know you are "Fearless", fearless of taking risks, fearless of the consequences of breaking your word, fearless of losing your playerbase. It is, however, a sign of your Hubris, and your hubris is your Hamartia.
What you don't get, what you fail to understand,is the problem isn't that we can buy 2 carriers for the price of half a pair of glasses, or the fact you went and deployed this without knowing it would fry hundreds of thousands of dollars of your customers machines, and lag out the rest,( or if you knew, didn't care), or that you lied when you said CQ would be optional, again when you said MT wouldn't affect gameplay, or your failure to respond to complaints, fix longstanding bugs, but rather the attitude that we will accept anything you do, and if we don't , we will be "Shown the Door" as we are when we disable the latest abomination thrust upon us .
The problem, Mr Gylfason, is YOU. You, and your hubris.
YOU created the corporate culture that made all these problems, and countless others, with your penchant for surrounding yourself with bootlickers and psycophants.
YOU did this with your disdain of criticism, lack of professionalism, your contempt for documentation of known issues ( I mean HOW COULD you fix the problems even if you wanted to, as you don't keep track of them).
The problem, is, in your hubris, you have chosen to view the players of eve as your employers, when in fact the reality is the converse. You Pooh Pooh us when we complain, and dismiss us out of hand as you do those in your employ when they warn you CCP is heading off a cliff. We are told what we should appreciate, how we should appreciate it, and that we should have a "better attitude". Screw you dude. I pay for this. You ain't doing me any favors.
People need to be fired, standards need to be set, your customers are not be used as your duped beta testers, and you need to LISTEN to what people want, not tell them what they should enjoy.WE WANT longstanding bugs addressed, ships balanced, our hangars back as they were as an option, CCP to keep its word, success in game not to be for sale, and a recognition of what the actual demographic of your playerbase actually is.
We are grown adults. We keep our word as our bond.We do not play dress up and Barbie, and although that may be the new demographic you seek to replace us with, maybe you ought to unscrew your original product and keep the subs you have before you spend the money from those you would have in our stead.Don't lie to us, don't try and placate us, the curtain has been drawn, and it is clear for one and all to see The Emperor has no clothes.
As YOU are the problem, YOU can fix it, with a change in corporate culture,or you can take your Vikngs with Spaceships game and go play with your ancestors in Valhalla
