To M14d

I must applaud you on your succint review on the matter and of course, your patience and rational explication of the matters. All of the points are credible and true, except one. Intelligence. I do not think that the general eve population has gone down in intelligence, in fact I certainly would downplay the number of ppl who rage thread everyday, form attacking the game to attacking ccp themselves e.g. 10 employees who felt their psychological contract were not fulfilled and thus is correlated to the incompetence of the entire company.

On the contrary, there are many who are quiet and eating popcorn and probably laughing at the entire uneccesitated drama. In short, there is no evidence that shows lack of, there is however evidence of stupidity on a small scale but thats about it.

Also, an angry mob, small it may be, cannot be reasoned with, coerced, or argue with rational thought. It is built on irrationalism. One could also say, force can be applied to placate things or giving in to populist demands (but who really knows the numbers ). In the past, i have seen some seen strong valid arguments which i supported. But not so In this matter, we can see how unsubstantiated points in the argument become valid due to what they perceive and not what is being actually implemented. The disgruntled pubbies want ccp to burn, for something they have not done yet. That's the bottom line. THEY do not represent the masses, in spite of their witchunt, in fact some of the posting is bordering on the sociopathic e.g calling the Pan incident a lie. Good luck on this thread though!

I can't even begin to describe how much this sums up 80% of the protesters when faced with opposing views.

I just thought I would bump this topic a last time, now that the whole protest has faded. I claim moral victory here over the protesters who did indeed seem to do this just for the fun of it.

I would also like to pay additional notice to this excerpt here, where I was 100% proven right:

Quote:
There's also a second class of people manifesting today. They're the so called rage-quitters. Found excessively in all communities, they suffer from unwarranted self-importance by assuming that anyone gives a damn if they just post they're going to stop playing. Which, by the way, they're not. 90% of all rage-quitters will return within a week. They just wanted to feel, you know, special. Like throwing your toys out of the pram, but after a while you'll want them back. When no one's looking. Silently.

Thanks guys,

M14D out.

Its actally quite simple, CCP have three projects and only get income from one

So resources that used to be for Eve are now shared out to cover all three projects.

CCP will probably solve the issues with Eve when they start to get income from one of thier other projects

I didn't bother to read his post, but I do think he was basically correct in that applying Intelligent and mature to the EVE player base as a whole is largely a mistaken assumption. I have seen evidence of true intellect and stupidity both on the EVE online forums and in game.

Just because someone knows how to operate the controls, doesn't make them a genius. In reality, I think it's feasible to say anyone with an IQ of 60 or higher can play EVE, and be moderately successful or even good at it..(it being PvP). ..maybe 70. It's also been proven that someone with an IQ of 130 or higher can suck at EVE and PvP.Embarassed

If I had a nickel for every time a player has posted on the forums slamming WoW players and in doing so demonstrated that they fit the very mold in which they aim to fit said WoW players (e.g. stupid kids)Ö I'd be rich!

I play WoW. I'm 40 years old. I play with people who are much more mature than what I've seen demonstrated in the forums. EVE players are on the very same level of maturity that I have found WoW players to be. I'm sorry kiddies but the game you play is NOT a measure of maturity.

That's illogical, they determined they could make more money by making two new games than polishing the older game. If they have the income of three games, then by their previous behavior they'll make 2-4 more games.

Just peruse people's bios for a few minutes, especially the pvp types... it's like they're all in middle school, still trying to prove themselves.

M14, I wish I had saw this post earlier, because I would have kept it bumped to the top page at all times. The kind of people you describe (who then came out to show proof in their posts on here) are miserable excuses for human beings. They are the same people, who had they been in Vancouver, would have been blowing up peoples work trucks, and destroying some helpless girls BMW because everyone else was doing it. You are all scum.

About corporate brainstorming:

All organisations (whether they be private sector or government) know that in the age of electronic written communication, leaks are inevitable.

In the company I work for, whenever we have a discussion/brain-storming session that we donít want to reach the public domain, we donít write it down. We get in a room and throw wild ideas at each other.

The fact that these ideas are being shot around CCP in such a manner (and therefore at high risk of being leaked), suggests to me that the ideas raised are not that far outside the current ethos of the company. Itís that ethos that is worrying many in the community because itís completely at odds with where they want to see the game go.

While some may not express their opinions as succinctly as the OP does, that doesnít make them stupid or their opinions invalid.

I suspect that they weren't overly worried about this particular internal discussion being leaked as their company policy on MT (despite popular opinion on these forums) has always been quite clear. Perhaps, in this regard, they gave the community too much credit.

A very well written post, even if it is done in a way slap the crap out of people's sense of self entitlement. Harsh, but in many cases well deserved. Observations that others have made do apply however, that the worst of the nonsense was vomited up from a relatively small number of EVE players.

Before the summit, I was asked for my prediction of how things would go. While I wasn't particularly nice about it, I did spell things out in a somewhat more down to earth way. I tend to be blunt, but honest. It works for me.

See below:

Quote:
What do I expect to happen next?

Fair question.

1: I expect at the CSM meeting some of the future plans for the NeX will be spelled out in more detail.

2: I expect that those future plans will include items/services that while not strictly non-vanity items are also far from pay-to-win scenario's. One example would be to use AURUM to buy player owned store fronts/bars where players can earn ISK from their establishments, or similar proposals. Thus explaining why there has been no blanket no non-vanity item statement as that would also cover those goods/services.

3: I expect them to firmly state that MT will remain part of their overall plan, and why.

4: I expect them to outline why the NeX items released so far are very high dollar. I suspect it has to do with keeping demand reasonable at first so as not to send too many ripples through the PLEX market.

5: I expect them to reinforce that the views of the player base do have value to them, and point out some of the many examples where they have heeded that advice. I would also not be surprised if they (hopefully tactfully, LOL) pointed out that while the feedback has value, it can not be allowed to directly dictate corporate policy. I also expect them to point out the reason for Hilmar's email, that the only feedback they can really rely on in this situation is what the players do... mainly because of the heavy trolling that has been occurring on the forums surrounding this issue on both sides.

6: I expect them to give a rough timeline of the next steps in the MT process. At least as far as they can without compromising themselves through any possible leaks to their competition.

7: And finally (yes this is cynical and catty of me) I expect that as this information is revealed part of the forum community will declare victory and pat themselves on the back for keeping CCP in line. I expect the rest of the forum community to get to work trying their best to theory craft the worst possible what-if scenarios possible... partially out of habit, partially to preserve their sense of dignity.

That's the main points, we'll see how close I am when it's over.

Not too far off the mark I guess.

The fact that your thread is now being given due consideration holds out some hope for maturity.

Wow. That's quite an apology. I bet you're hell on wheels in the boardroom (once you finish and the board awakens from their slumbers.)

A current employee with CCP in an interview with a prominent gaming magazine gives another, and probably way more accurate than yours, characterization of the particular management rag in question. The interviewer was told this publication's purpose is to ensure "all the boats are pointed in the right direction."

I hate to contradict you, but I've never been in an administrative/management structure that airs its bare-bones planning before the assemblage of employees. It's not that such planning sessions are secretive, so much as, if nothing as of yet has been decided, there's nothing to report.

But, I do congratulate you on a real yawner here. It sounded so...professional...till the second sentence.

EDIT: One last, minor, point. You told us how you can tell EVE players aren't intelligent. You never told us "WHY".

Yes, I know whom you are making vague reference to.

No, they have not been a CCP employee for some time.

Wow, this post is dumb and stupid in many ways. One is that you are saying the "community" is acting up because of MT, and the stupid updates that are making eve worst is lowering in intelligence. Well, the truth is, the whole "community" which you are referring to is like less than 5 percent of the whole player population. That is like a minority, so yea your point is mooted. Maybe some people are stupid which is always the case in any country, games, or world but yea, I think you are one of them. Generalizing a community base on a few minority is pretty close minded. Second of all, I guess people are just having fun protesting etc. Yea it's "fun" I don't know if you know the meaning of that word but people play eve solely because of that purpose. Third, is that if you promise someone anything, don't break it. You will just make that person very distrustful and angry at you and that is what ccp did to the whole community. Even if they are "experimenting" and "debating" ccp promise us there won't be any micro-transaction at all and guess what, they broke their promise after a year. I don't care if it is about profit or experimenting but never make a promise when you know you are gonna break it.

I've said this before, but here it is again.

If something like the Incarna debacle was perpetrated by most corporations, heads would roll, the responsible execs would be transferred to remote outposts, PR would back the company off the whole thing, apologize, and aim toward the future with assurances the culpable have been found and marginalized.

The problem is not the average IQ of the player base, its the IQ of the leaders of CCP. They've lost their touch, they play infantile games of cliques and favoritism, and pose as a professional outfit when in effect they have acted like rank amateurs. Most of the leaders of CCP seem to have personality defects you can drive a truck through, and their lack of foresight and managerial skills is painfully evident.

For CCP to not anticipate the firestorm that erupted after the Incarna release just shows it is headed in the wrong direction, and fast.

I would expect there is not a player active right now that would not have waited a few more months for something with substance from Incarna. The fact it took so many years to release this miniscule expansion of an avatar traipsing around a darkened motel room is almost beyond belief.
